I think Xiao Ge is now at peace. The previous Deren ( head of the temple) feels he needs to let go of his coldness, be humanlike and feel his emotions. It was heartbreaking to see Xiao Ge tears up but yet heartwarming to watch him get the opportunity to see his mother, loosen up and move forward with his pals.
