Shu Nian always feels like he’s just a substitute for that dog, which really shows how little self-esteem he has and why he keeps letting people walk all over him.

100% agree. I wrote almost the same thing about Memoir of Rathi. GMM is only here for money and fan service. They don't care about plot and good show anymore.

Maybe you’ve already seen it, but if you’re interested in a historical BL, I highly recommend the excellent To Sir, With Love (on YouTube). It’s not really a standard series but a lakorn. It can be a bit over the top, especially in the acting, but that’s part of the genre. In short, it’s a must-watch.
