A romance about self-sacrifice and overcoming obstacles in life.
An often dark romance, storylines involved child abuse, mafia life, smuggling, poverty, violence, death, etc. The setting is also more old and run down than the usual slick modern locales seen in other shows. The lead characters also grew up together as step siblings, so they already knew everything about each other, making the romance a bit different than the usual romance where people meet and learn about each other while dating. I feel like the heart of the show is the two lead character's continued willingness to sacrifice themselves for each other as they struggle through life. It was a bit depressing to see some of their struggles, but I think that fans of Zhang Jingyi will be pleased. Especially in the latter episodes she gets a chance to wear some really nice outfits. I would say that the male romantic rival character was truly annoying. Overall, a decent show if you can get over the general darkness of it.
