In the novel, if I remember correctly, the FL is in her early 20 while the ML is in his late 20, almost 30. Novel…
I’m not a noob, I base my observations on 100s if not a 1000+ cdramas I’ve watched thru the years. Every once in a while I want to weigh-in on my own thoughts and don’t mind a disagreement or two. Everyone has their own opinions. Not sure why it’s necessary to be the troubadour for theatre and cinema just because you don’t agree with my views. Furthermore, responding in the third person doesn’t make your thinly veiled insults less hostile sounding.
I’m here because of Wu Jin Yan and consider her a premier actor. But I question the choice of Chen Zhe Yuan for the ML given their 6 years age gap, Nothing wrong with a female lead being older, but this plot line clearly shows FL to be a child in the flashback scenes to an older young man who is the emperor. Wu Jin Yan could easily be an Auntie to the emperor in my opinion. A better choice would have been for someone like Jeremy Xu to play the emperor’s role, then the ages would match closer to the characters they portray. Don’t get me wrong I love Chen Zhe Yuan as an actor, some of his best roles are my favorites, like Handsome Siblings, White Olive Tree. I just feel the FL/ML age difference affects the believability of the story line, having to justify it in my mind which feels forced.
Incredible performances in this series, especially ML actor Guo Jing Fei and woman police sergeant played by Guo Ke Yu and the watch repair guy actor Zu Feng. Some scenes so realistic did not seem like acting. Huge eye opener tho when traveling to watch out for thieves!

The drama isn’t solely focused on the romance between ML and FL, it also features sub plots and supporting characters that make it genuinely interesting. I’m a huge fan of Meng Ziyi. She really carried this drama. She is an amazing actress, and deserves an award.
