Actually very few of his works have flopped if you look at his career of almost 15 years. He is never afraid of taking challenging and unique roles. If he wanted he could have selected only the cliche roles in dramas made for the mass popularity but he never does that. I think his only bad choice was melting me softly.

Yeah i actually agree with you. The actress is not bad by any means but i expected to see more reactions from her especially in her scenes with the king (his death etc)

Yes it was definitely the age gap thing. The FL literally had her eyes set on the ML only🤣. There was no place for anyone else. Thank god the ML realised his love for her later.

So basically in ep 1 the king (through the licking scene) wanted to spread the rumour that his relationship with the queen is not very good so that the ministers dont plot to attack and kill the queen and rather suggest to dethrone her. Am i missing something?

Hmm... This is based on actual historical events but is taking more of a historical fantasy kind of approach.…
I think that's because it's very fast paced. They don't even have the time to explore so many characters in 4 eps. I guess they wanted to differentiate it completely from a typical sageuk. It's more of a serious action /chase fantasy drama i guess

I really liked how they used JCW's character here even after his death. He is like a connection between the past and future events and gives context and meaning to the present events. I also loved the quick backstory they showed for him and the queen, it implied that they were destined to be together. But they killed him too early 👹...after watching this i really want to see JCW in another sageuk with 16 episodes 😗
