The first case you told about which ended anticlimactic with the death of the 15th princess is intended to show the viewers and Li Peiyi the stance of the emperor who is hypocritical, who says that he understands the realm but cannot understand his daughter's mind for marriage (Well, he literally met her thrice in her whole life). He simply didn't care about her and sees all the people as subjects who will heed his command (typical monarchy).
2. The first three cases were like that where Li Peiyi finds the culprit only for the emperor to not give them punishment because he supposedly say something of a bigger picture and it would disrupt the court. The third one was horrible where the case ended with no outcome and no one can do anything about the villain, that writers had to put the maids as vigilante to seek justice/ karma. This was the reason why at the end of the series she makes sures to get out of the palace by angering the emperor which was deliberate.
3. Xiao Huaijin stopping Li Peiyi to kill the Right Chancellor shows how must he understands the morality. While it may seem like he wanted to protect a vile criminal with no remorse. It was essential so that he will not lose Li Peiyi. Think in this way, if Li Peiyi had killed him then she would be blamed to kill right chancellor with no past criminal records (we know that he is a piece of shit) but others don't and she would be charged with poisoning all the ministers. That alone will lead to death sentence if not exile. If that is not enough, the truth of the Prince Of Duan Manor would be remain buried and his name will not be cleared while the generation will remember Cui Minzhong as the Right Chancellor. He basically told her that killing him with the cost of her life is not worth it.
4. The part where you felt "Du Zhi Xing firing Li Pei Yi only to appear fine with her later, feel abrupt" was probably after the first case Ep 04. She appears to be fine during the second case because there is a 3-4 months time gap between the two cases, the first case was in starting of winter and the second case started in spring . She probably curry favor her master and the emperor to be back which is told be Wuren in Ep 04.
5. This is a part i agree with you introducing the crown prince, with only the 4 episodes remaining is a bit of poor writing. They could have made him a support role.
