As ambarassing as the CP is, I think the true clown is Xi he, she honestly blieves she has no feelings for him.…
I was literally thinking this right before I read your comment. The sheer difference between how she treated the other princes and how she treats Huayong makes it so clear that she already likes him no matter what she says or thinks herself.

Finally got myself to finish this drama and if I'm being honest, the only thing I really loved here were the OSTs, everything else was just there. There were many aspects I appreciated in this drama like its grounded story, the quiet direction, the realistic palette, how it prioritised life over spectacle, Ye Li and Mo Xiuyao's gradual relationship, Ye Li's pain and how it shaped her and even Mo Jingli's doomed rebellion but unfortunately, I hardly found myself enjoying it and had to push myself to complete it.

Overall, an 8/10 is my upper bound.

I thought he used to fake the cough to make people think he was sickly.
He did but since he did not cough in front of Xihe's father, he didn't want him to think he was sickly lol.

Huayong is such a smooth talker, he hears what he wants and says what he wants lol. I don't think anyone can outtalk him in this drama.

He must have really wanted to impress Duke Wei though, seeing how he didn't cough once in front of him 🤣🤣

TIAN YUAN IS SO DONE WITH ALL HIS LIES 🤣
Tian Yuan's pay should have gone up for having to deal with Huayong after he fell in love with Xihe 🤣🤣

Tell me about that 😭 I need to take a minute or two before switching dramas to separate all the details. I'm trying to watch them on alternate days to put some gap, but it isn't working very well so far.

Watching Minghao and He Yu back and forth makes me want to rewatch Dashing Youth too lol.

It's hardly about all he wants when Jiayu literally said that he had never done anything he wanted before, even…
When I said Prince Qi's want for power was inevitable, I accounted his personal desires too and wasn't only blaming his circumstances.

Yes, I would absolutely say that he accepted the edict to protect his friend and people. Even if he always wanted power, protecting Wuyi was the main factor which influenced his decision at that point. We know Wuyi is powerful, we know he probably wouldn't have died but Li Mao doesn't. Wuyi is not invincible. From his pov, Wuyi could have very well died that night even if he engaged in battle, along with many other people, plunging the state into a civil war. Would it have actually happened; I guess we will never know.

If you say, that he could've still chosen to leave the palace and run away with Jiayu but she wouldn't have been actually there, would she? While his 'choices' are probably enough to judge his character, it's nothing but an illusion. He is caught in a scheme too and honestly, he doesn't really have a choice even if he doesn't know that.

So, I think it's good that he's at least trying to adjust to politics and gain power because no one dies faster in the battle for power than the one who doesn't want to be there. And if you are asking me, then no, I don't think there is a way to gain power and control and still be 'good', at least not in everyone's eyes. If there was, Xiao Wuyi wouldn't have had such a bad reputation.

As for your last question, we'll have to continue watching to see where the story takes him. My opinion of him is based on my understanding of his character till now and I'm willing to give him some grace and overlook some of his mistake because he's inexperienced and hoping he doesn't take the path of destruction because I'm honestly tired of that SML trope.

It's just my opinion and we can agree to disagree.

Prince Qi is a selfish man. It is all about his want but not Jua Yu
It's hardly about all he wants when Jiayu literally said that he had never done anything he wanted before, even running away together was her idea.

Now if he wants power and throne (regardless of whether he truly wants it or just needs it), it is not unjustified, especially when being powerless could be fatal to him and everyone around him. Are we just expecting him to be treated like dirt and still count on other people to protect him? I also don't get why everyone is acting like he could just leave if he wanted, they already tried that, didn't they? The emperor, the dowager empress, the grand tutor, none of them would actually let them go (especially with the sister) and even if XWY somehow managed to help them escape they'd be hunted all their lives.

Prince Qi's want for power was inevitable, and he can totally see Jiayu slipping away, now the question is whether he'll let her go gracefully when that time comes or not.

Riley Wang, always in a love triangle… whenever i see his name in cast of any drama i know for a fact or first…
Thankfully Fate Chooses You and The Legend of Rosy Clouds were different where he had his own separate love line.

He will get more character development and change, but I guess I'm wanting him to be a little rational and not directly jump into a battle of wits against Wuyi, especially not over Jiayu.

They'll take different routes but I'm hoping they have the same destination and some sort of tactical understanding at the very least.

Nah he's still salvageable😭 After watching obsessive SMLs for years, my tolerance bar for annoyance has become pretty high, it only counts after she wants to walk away lol.

In my opinion, having ambitions is fine. Wanting power to be able to protect himself and his loved ones is fine. Wanting and priortising the throne over FL is also fine as at the end of the day, he is the SML and ML and FL will end up together.

What I don't wanna see is him obsessing over the FL when she eventually walks away, blaming and taking out his jealousy on the ML and plotting futile and clumsy schemes (with or without the help of grand tutor) which the ML is clearly too smart to fall for.

We can see that Wuyi and Li Mao have differences and will go their own ways, but I really really hope that they don't make them enemies and actually put them against each other cuz not only it's predictable and cliched but also there's literally no competition between them. Li Mao has very little talent in scheming and legit has his emotions written on his face in bold and simply doesn't hold a candle to Wuyi in any kind of mind games and plotting.

This. I understand the concern over the age gap but having an age accurate actress makes her playfulness and naivety feel really natural.
