A Refreshing Breath of Air

This drama has a very deep lore for people who are associated with Yaoi fandoms and have been watching asian dramas for long in general. On the surface it is a mere comedy drama but the writing is actually genius. I rarely rate anything a 10/10 actually but I think this one deserves it and let me explain why :

1. THE YAOI LORE : This drama took me back to the early japanese Yaoi where crazy good looking characters with extremely unrealistic desirable traits used to be created. This one using the classic 'F4' trope and the various Kabedon situations and the Yaoi tropes employed had me chuckling but also left me impressed. They were parodied well and were really funny but I never felt like they were mocking the genre. Although it was supposed to be caricaturish but they still treated the whole thing with respect and appreciation.

2. THE SIDE CHARACTERS : Each side character has a personality of its own and perfectly capable of existing as an Individual that does not need the main character to have a life of its own. They feel like real people and frankly if this was developed into more episodes they all will have a lot to contribute. This was the most impressive point of this drama. Be it her parents or other students they are all so well written. Although it is just a 16 episodes drama with each episode being half an hour long sp really its like an 8 episode mini-series but I feel like they really took their time to write this.

3. INTERESTING AND REFRESHING PREMISE : I did not skip a single second of this drama. I was not bored for even a moment. I don't even remember when that happened the last time while watching an asian drama. I would not say thats its a masterpiece but it is genuinely the best thing I have seen in last 2 years.

4. INSPIRATIONAL : 'The coming of Age' factor is really heavy in this one. The teacher - student relationship is genuinely heart touching and by the end of the series I felt like picking up back on Writing as a hobby that I left a long time back. This drama left me weirdly emotional on many parts and I was surprised by the depth of it because I did not delve into this expecting that.

ALL I WANNA SAY IS I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS DRAMA AND I WILL DEFINITELY REWATCH THIS MORE THAN ONCE !!!!

Un CHEF-D'ŒUVRE ABSURDE ET EXISTENTIALISTE

Je ne pense pas avoir vu une telle vision de la vie dans les drames japonais. Ils ont réussi à toucher des sujets extrêmes en seulement 5 épisodes. De plus, tous ceux qui regardent cela devraient faire attention à la bande sonore, c'est l'une des meilleures.

Je lis aussi le roman et il me parle beaucoup plus en détail des personnages. la meilleure partie de tout le drame pour moi était de savoir comment il traitait le manque absolu d'empathie chez les gens, ce qui rend plus difficile pour certains d'entre nous qui ont soif de compréhension et qui luttent plus que d'autres.

Mais encore une fois, le message était aussi simple que de passer plus de temps avec votre famille qu'au votre travail.

Obsessed

Obsession is quite literally the theme of this movie but i too am obsessed with this. It is perfectly tailor made for me. I loved all the gothic elements.....Every scene, every frame was out of this world. The music too...its just altogether supreme film making. It is historically and culturally important. Japan should be proud of itself for producing this movie.

I dont wanna give spoilers but this movie potrays very wicked kind of love...something pure and bloody which can turn something inanimate into something beautiful and lively. The men in this movie are genuinely disgusting, entitled and driven by lust except one and thats what this movie about.

From a man's lense the woman drove men insane but from a woman's lense....she was honest and just wanted love. In the end she got what she wanted and when she achieved what she wanted in her life....fate rightfully put her to rest. Its not a tragedy....its a beautiful love story. The director managed to capture the essence of obsessive 'love' completely.

A Beautiful Classic

The synopsis gives away almost all the story of the drama but i'd still provide a review. It was hard work finding this drama...trust me!!! I was obsessed with finding this drama because I loved the OST so much. The OST alone can motivate a person with a good taste to watch this drama. The first 10 episodes are a masterpiece but gradually u get tired of the filler. There r no side characters honestly...each character is given enough focus and storyline to not be called a side character.

Let's talk about the main love story.... perfect!!! It is so bold of the screenwriter to explore the dark and real side which fueled this Melodrama. Storytelling is very intelligent and not hasty at all. There is foreshadowing of things to come but one is so blinded by romance that the ending is unthinkable but yes the ending is very realistic.

I am not a huge fan of melodramas but i still liked this but if u r by chance a fan of melodramas u should not miss this one.

Abomination

Je sais que cela appartient à « l’ère pornographique » du Japon, mais ce n’est pas de la pornographie… c’est juste une simple humiliation.

Laissez-moi parler de la scène d'ouverture du film où il y a des tonnes de femmes nues mentalement instables... ce qui n'a pas de sens parce que 2 ou 3 femmes ont enlevé leurs vêtements mais tant de femmes nues ? Pourquoi? C'est évidemment un film pornographique.. .donc je comprends, mais il y a une autre femme dans l'asile psychiatrique montrée nue sans raison. Quel genre d'asile psychiatrique est-ce où seules les femmes folles se déshabillent mais où les hommes, aussi fous soient-ils, restent entièrement habillés ??
Ok... bien, j'ai digéré ça d'une manière ou d'une autre, mais ensuite le film devient rapidement dérangé et nous atteignons cette île... et la représentation des femmes là-bas était nauséabonde... complètement nauséabonde... il n'y a aucune quantité d'humanité présente dans le méchant du film... C'était simplement un incel. Je voulais me divertir mais je suis progressivement devenu de plus en plus inquiet. Je respecte la liberté de faire de l'art mais ce film m'a vraiment donné envie d'aller manifester devant la maison du réalisateur. Je suis presque sûre que la maison de ce réalisateur a été fouillée. .on retrouverait plusieurs femmes torturées et battues.

A very different male lead

L'histoire est bonne et c'est un joli drame familial. Le protagoniste principal en particulier est très différent... c'est un inutile, paresseux, lâche qui a une faible estime de soi mais qui reste un bon humain.

Le deuxième protagoniste masculin avait une coiffure horrible. Les personnages secondaires étaient très sympathiques. La musique n'avait rien de spécial et je ne sais pas pourquoi mais j'étais vraiment ennuyé par le personnage de Heeju.

À la fin, nous avons eu une jolie fin. De plus, les fesses de cet enfant sont sur Internet pour toujours. Je me sens mal pour lui.

Genre de dépression à laquelle je peux m'identifier

Ce film est très personnel pour moi car j'ai lutté toute ma vie contre une immense dépression et d'autres maladies mentales, mais il suffit aussi à faire pleurer une personne normale.

C'est un classique mais je ne vois pas beaucoup de citations de ce film dans les médias modernes. Je pense que c'est toujours très pertinent pour les personnes vivant dans des pays du tiers monde et aux prises avec l'argent et le SSPT de différentes sortes, car celui-ci a une description très précise.

Il y a des personnages très variés, très profonds et bien écrits. celui-ci est la nourriture de l’âme d’un vrai cynique. je le recommande à tout le monde... c'est du vrai cinéma.

Absurdist comedy + yaoi = perfection

I am a huge fan of Japanese comedy and also this mangaka. If you haven't checked out his other works please do. You would like his work if you are a twitter stan not a reddit stan hehe if u know what I mean.

First of all I must say I love love love the acting of both leads. I would love to see them together in something else too not necessarily Yaoi. I have a special talent of recognising a masterpiece from the poster and my hunch was right about this too...this deserves to be in the BL hall of fame.

It has all my favourite cliches, tropes and right pacing above all which is very important for a comedy to hit. I have loved it from the first scene till the very end but I do admit unseasoned fans won't like it. You gotta have some experience to eat this delicious dish and savour the flavour!

A surprisingly good Pink film

Je pense que le premier mot qui me vient à l'esprit en y repensant, c'est que c'était magnifique. Cela fait partie des films pornographiques produits à l'époque par le Japon... donc je n'avais presque aucune attente quand je l'ai commencé, mais cela s'est avéré étonnamment brillant.

L'histoire de ce film est tout à fait unique mais n'a rien de choquant pour quelqu'un qui regarde régulièrement des films d'horreur. Ce qui a rendu ce film spécial pour moi, c'est que je n'avais pas l'impression qu'une femme était exploitée en regardant ce film. Beaucoup de ces films pornographiques japonais dégradent les personnages féminins. Même lorsque ces personnages féminins sont des samouraïs ou des policiers... J'ai l'impression qu'elles ne sont qu'un pion qu'on déplace pour titiller les hommes venus voir ces films. Ce film décrit avec précision comment quelque chose de pornographique ne doit pas nécessairement être carrément dégradant. Cela dépend uniquement de l'intention du réalisateur. Je suppose que c'est peut-être pour cela qu'il s'agit d'un film sous-estimé et impopulaire par rapport aux autres films de ce genre, car il emprunte un chemin différent. Aussi, une autre chose que j'ai aimé, c'est que tout le porno était réellement pertinent par rapport à l'intrigue du film.

J'apprécie également la musique et le jeu des acteurs de ce film. Surtout le jeu du rôle principal masculin... j'aimerais pouvoir le proposer aux Oscars hahaha. Même les personnages secondaires m'ont vraiment surpris par leurs talents d'acteur. Quel chef-d'œuvre !

CHINA'S CENTURY OF HUMILIATION

En fait, je suis nouvelle dans le cinéma chinois. C'est peut-être mon premier classique chinois.

Le film semble en fait se dérouler dans les temps anciens... la plupart des films historiques que j'ai regardés ont encore une touche moderne, mais celui-ci vous transporte vraiment en arrière.

Cela sert d’encyclopédie de la mentalité chinoise du passé et du présent. L’impuissance de la Chine vers la fin était extrêmement difficile à regarder et j’ai moi-même commencé à détester davantage l’Occident pour son hypocrisie à la fin du film.

Cela pourrait ressembler à un film de propagande, mais ce n’est pas le cas. Il présente des faits simples et des personnages très réalistes. Les Britanniques ont été si méchants tout au long de leur histoire que personne n’a besoin de faire le moindre effort pour inciter à la haine contre eux.

Dans l'ensemble... très amusant. C'est un peu long mais on ne perd jamais l'intérêt.

Japanese gothic tale

I am a huge fan of gothic horror and dark fantasy and this one was a mixture of both. Beautifully shot and i guess its based on a really popular folk tale.

I am a fan of the simplicity of the movie...it really is very theatrical and natural. Only because its vintage it was also very dream like.

I really like Love stories like these where people just so deeply fall in love that they transcend the boundaries to be with each other....the story itself is so beautiful....a timeless romantic tale which is also very haunting but not terrifying.

I want such folk tales to be interpreted by women and see what they do with it. Maybe because this was interpreted by a man...this felt a bit dry on the part of characters. But otherwise good.

Good Enough

A very rare korean sitcom because i have not seen koreans do any gothic themes...the music is good......this series introduced me to various korean classics...there are LGB elements and on top of that a good love story. The humor is the best part and also the characters are very well written. Even the side characters are used extremely efficiently.

I would have rated it higher if they didnt write vampires as powerless pathetic beings...i mean they could have given them some power atleast but all in all a solid sitcom and a hidden gem that everybody must watch.

Must watch Sitcom

J'ai adoré du début à la fin. Il y a eu des épisodes ennuyeux aussi, mais c'est tout simplement trop drôle pour ne pas les regarder.

J'ai adoré les costumes, la musique et l'ambiance générale. Les histoires d’amour étaient mignonnes et ça aide de vraiment connaître la culture coréenne. c'est peut-être obsolète maintenant, mais je pense que c'est toujours d'actualité. Cela m'a parfois ennuyé lorsque les femmes étaient trop soucieuses de mettre un homme au point d'avoir l'air pathétique, mais cela s'est racheté dans les épisodes ultérieurs.

Il n'y a pas grand-chose à révéler ici car c'est une petite sitcom tellement mignonne... il est un peu longue mais ça vaut le coup.

ACTING MASTERCLASS WITH AN OLDBOY-ESQUE TRAGEDY

I just got done binge-watching this, and I am very confused about my feelings toward it. I liked it, but can I say I loved it? Umm... I don't really know. I will have to think about it for many days before I can properly decide where this stands for me. One thing is for sure: it has left a deep impact on my mind. It's a good thing they released it all at once because that way it delivered the emotional hit it was supposed to. If they had released it episode by episode, it would have given viewers' brains enough time to relax and then you wouldn't have been dragged into the madness and obsession along with the main character, and the immersion would have broken. If the immersion breaks, the tale feels hollow and meaningless—which it is not in any way.

Coming to Choi Min Sik's performance... well, I have seen a few of his previous projects, and they felt really dull to me. I never understood the hype. I would like to officially apologize to this man on my knees. Dare I say this is one of the best performances I have ever seen an actor deliver? I am in awe of this man's capabilities as an actor. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. I would pay to watch this six-hour series in a theatre because that's where he belongs. He belongs on the big screen. Netflix is too small for him. I mean, watching this man on your laptop should be a crime. What an actor!

Now, coming to the second lead, I would say he was convincing enough. I have seen him in *My Dearest Nemesis*. He was fine there, and he was fine here too. But please stop putting that color of lipstick on him. It really does not suit him. He has this dead-behind-the-eyes look, which really helps him appear psychopathic. However, his acting style is genuinely predictable. Still, he managed to do his job, so I'll give him a pass.

The music reminded me of some Japanese mystery thrillers because they tend to be jazz-heavy. I liked it there, and I liked it here too. Apart from the jazz, there isn't much worth mentioning, but it was appropriate and suited the story well. At times, I had some issues with the color grading, but there wasn't enough time to analyze all that since so much was happening in the story all the time. If you sit down and analyze the story closely, I'm sure you'll find a few loopholes. But if you simply flow with the madness, you'll see what the story wants you to see, and that, in my opinion, is the beauty of this drama.

GOTHIC AF BUT REPITITIVE AND FORMULAIC

The drama leans heavy on the gothic side and thats actually what dragged me in. I love the aesthetics and costume but there are very obvious and jarring cliches in this that kept pissing me off but I must admit the drama is captivating enough for you to not drop it midway.
My main complain is from the ghost stories that occupy most of the time frame of this drama. I did like two of them which was very surprising to me because I was not expecting to like even a single one of them but really 2 of them were quite impressive especially with the imagery and direction they did leave an impact on me but the rest of them were frustratingly boring. I dont think this kind of unimpressive horror in mainstream chinese media has evolved for past 15 years. I dont understand how they keep writing the same tropes and keep employing same devices of storytelling. Even the direction and cinematography related to these so called corrupt spirits posessing people murder mystery thriller movies and dramas is just so uneasy on eyes that I feel like throwing up due to boredom.
Coming to the love story I would stay it is good but it has been destroyed by China's cosmetic industry. The female lead's face is so frozen by botox that she is actually incapable of displaying any emotions but I would still say she is a damn good actress because she still manages to convey most of the emotions by her mannerisms alone and actually botox kind of helps her to have this icy cold inhumane look which is appropriate for her character but when it comes to being emotional in love nah man she is not convincing enough. The guy also falls flat in extremely emotional scenes. i really wanted to be invested because the writer has done a good job but the immersion keeps breaking because the intensity is not well conveyed due to their frozen faces. It is such a shame because this definitely had potential. Anyways, it is a good one time watch I would say maybe just for the aesthetics.
