Despite the rating being lower than we would like, the pace and number of comments are pretty healthy.

Yups…..and now we see that nuttiness runs in the family.

I think as more people become aware of this drama, we should see the rating go up. And of course the further we get from the TTEOTM fallout……

Arguably it should, it’s less niche than WOH in some ways. But Youku should still step up its game cos there are potentially big hits coming out very soon like Kuning Palace.

Done. But it doesn’t help if there are strong detractors who rate it seven or under……….

Word of mouth or word on soc med also works despite Youku’s best efforts to bury its own creations. That’s what happened with Word of Honor, Youku’s very low budget hit which came out of nowhere.

Agree. Many times a highly anticipated big budget drama will somehow turn out just meh……

It’s Youku. They’re always so haphazard and borderline amateur. Having said that sleeper hits can crop up with small budgets, lesser known stars and newbie scriptwriter- that’s what happened with Word of Honor in which Zhou Ye debuted. It was only due to the popularity of WOH with international audiences that Youku began to launch better VIP English service. They are that disorganized……

He’s definitely missing his heart - see the OST sequence where YH says she will lend him hers.

His hair turned white when she died - from shock, grief……YH will return as a human with all her memories intact and will go look for him. And they lived happily ever after…..

It makes her less one dimensional and contrary to how she is now, she did not start out crazy obsessive over him.

He was split into 5 parts: soul, bones, horns, tendons and heart. His soul escaped first, then he got his bones and now his horns. Yes he will get progressively stronger, but will remain incomplete since the heart protection scale is in YH. In the novel his neidan (energy core) is also in her.

He needs a mixed couple in love to help him get something. We don’t know what that is yet. He’s also a little schizo/psycho….

Yes he does. Each time it brings a different challenge, so the whole novel is really the journey to get all his body parts and defeat the ultimate villain who hasn’t been revealed yet at this stage. It’s a very happy ending after the inevitable sacrifice.

In the novel, YH voluntarily gives up the heart protection scale and the dragon neidan. She then dies, but is reincarnated with her memories intact. She finds TY and they live happily ever after. Am thinking something like that is in the works, cos of the scene of her handing him a baozi in the end credits.

I have to say the makeup crew is pretty good, firstly no OTT deathly white faces, or weird eyeshadow shades, and they always leave dirt marks, injuries on faces etc.
