THE EARLY SPRING: I want to share something I came across on Weibo, everyone! 😂 So I was searching for fun facts about this drama and the calligraphy used in The Early Spring has to be one of the coolest behind the scenes details I’ve come across!

Apparently, the calligraphy we see throughout the drama is 100% real. The production team confirmed that ALL 24 episode titles were handwritten by Jing Boran himself! 😳 And this wasn’t something they randomly asked him to do. He actually suggested the idea during the script read-through stage, before filming even started.
And get this, he reportedly revised his drafts 17 TIMES before settling on the final design! 😂 He wanted the handwriting to fit the drama’s urban and literary vibe, so instead of going for very traditional, formal calligraphy, his style is more relaxed, elegant and has this really fresh, warm feeling to it.

And apparently, this isn’t some new hobby he suddenly picked up for The Early Spring. Back in 2015, Hanyi Fonts officially partnered with Jing Boran to create the “Hanyi Jing Boran Font.” He personally wrote around 3,000 commonly used Chinese characters for the font library, and he was reportedly the first male actor of his generation to have his own computer font.

The copyright fee was reportedly around 1,000 RMB per character, which would be around 3 million RMB in total, and he donated the proceeds to charity. 😭

So basically, while we were watching Luke being Luke, Jing Boran was leaving his handwriting all over the drama too.

In a recent interview, actress #XuRuohan revealed that 2 or 3 years ago, during a lull in her career, she lacked the funds to cover even her rent. Forced to max out her "Huabei" credit line and eventually turn to her mother for help, she described that period as the most anxiety-inducing time of her life.
Roughly between 2023 and 2024, Xu Ruohan was at a low point in her acting career, lacking both work opportunities and public attention.
The absence of a stable income led to a shortage of funds for living expenses, making it difficult to pay even basic rent.
Because of the prolonged lack of work, she relied on "Huabei" credit to cover daily expenses for a time, though she initially hesitated to ask her family for help.
She stopped asking her family for living expenses during her sophomore year of college, taking responsibility for living costs herself. While studying at the Beijing Film Academy’s School of Animation, many of her classmates worked part-time—such as taking commissions for portrait illustrations—fostering a strong sense of self-reliance in her. Despite her difficult circumstances, she insisted on sharing only good news with her family; unwilling to return home appearing like a failure, she strove to maintain her dignity and independence.
When the career lull became truly unsustainable, she was forced to ask her mother for financial support. She asked for 5,000 yuan, but her mother transferred 10,000 yuan and suggested she come home to rest if it didn't work, but she declined, choosing instead to face the adversity on her own.
Her experience made us lament that actors are not always glamorous; unstable income is the norm in the industry, and you only get paid when you have a role, so a gap means no income. Xu Ruohan's candid sharing also resonated deeply, with many saying her independent and strong-willed personality was very touching

I only played the first episode yesterday out of curiosity becuz I saw some comments on another SNS platform saying it was good, pretty good from what they have seen so far. I wasn't that convinced at first but thought give a try anyway as I always take a glimpse to ongoing Chinese historical dramas. Also, feels like it's been SO long since I watched any historical... Usually always have one or two ongoing historical dramas but somehow I've had a long gap this time

So yeah I just played the first episode during my meal time, thinking I'll just watch 20 minutes or so

BUT Holly shit I was just ended up watch the whole epi, seriously didn't even realize until the first episode ended. Don't know why that happened, usually it doesn't happen to me. Maybe I was just too exhausted since only slept like 1.5–2 hours the day before yesterday and my sleep schedule has been completely messed up for the past 6/7 days becuz of my midterms
