''Everything I love left me'' Vegas has experienced the feeling of losing someone he loves before, even if he can be cruel to the world he gets attached easily to what's dear to him. When he loves he loves hard and treasures what's important to him. Pete is no expeption, he is actually proof of that. In the end he put Pete's feelings above his need to cure his loneliness. Imagine Vegas' feelings once he woke up after Pete escaped. How lonely, lost, anxious, sad and scared he must have felt. Yet he picked up his broken pieces and cooked once again in hopes that Pete will come back to him. It was the same day he was cooking Pete's favorite dish with a huge smile on his face and his father came and ruined his efforts. It was the same day he realized how much Pete has been suffering on the inside and that same day he was left alone once again. Yet, this time, instead of acting seflishly based on his feelings, he decided to give Pete a choice without pressuring him. He cooked two plates of the dish Pete likes and was waiting for him, hoping that he would get back to him the same way he did before, when he was presented with the perfect chance of escaping but chose to comfort Vegas instead. He was waiting till the news of Pete being back to the main family reached him shuttering all of his hopes making him burst into tears. At that moment Vegas realized that Pete chose the main family over him, and no matter how much this pains him he still accepts it because Pete matters more to him and after all, he realizes that he has no one to blame but himself for the way things turned out. He decides to face the consequences of his own actions and ends up respecting Pete's needs. Vegas' tries to reunite with him but he did not do it with the intention of winning anything out of it. He did not try to persuade Pete to come back, he did not make him choose between him and the main family, he did not confess about his feelings. He did not make this meeting about him, it was all about Pete and how Pete felt. He met with him to properly apologize and make him acknowledge his feelings, he wanted to give him closure because that is what Pete needed.
During the war Vegas asks of Pete to be him the one who kills him if things go south. Pete was presented with the chance to shoot Vegas back in the bar but he did not do it, and Vegas too knew that Pete was not able to pull the tigger, so what made him think he will do it now? Vegas, in his mind thinks that Pete chose the main family over him, thus, if things go towards a direction in which it is inevitable for Vegas to stay alive he wants Pete to be the one to end everything. He believes that Pete will be able to do it since his duty as a bodyguard is important to him. That is why he only wishes to die in Pete's hands but in the end Pete ends up putting his feelings above his duty and chooses Vegas. Pete is for once being selfish and decides to give in to his desires.
In the hospital scene Vegas is still processing the fact that Pete is there with him. Everything that he loves has left him, his mother and pets died, his father was killed, Pete had left him once and his heritage was taken away. He was left with nothing ( tho Macau never left him but I understand how one must feel when he suffers so many losses). Vegas feels guilty about what he put Pete through and he is ready to be held accountable for it by giving Pete the choice to leave. He puts Pete above everything and actually lets him decide for himself. Vegas's love in the series is selfless and if there is a second season and that trait of his is taken away I will seriously go mad.
