First of all i love this drama. It’s a very female centric drama.. I love Bailu and Chenglei’s acting here they give superb acting. The first half directing is beautiful, solid script until ep 22 and during the Lishan arc. Love the leads slow romance and domestic life, love their subtle romantic tension and chemistry.
What’s lacking for me: It’s a story about Yeli, basically everything is done by her, even MXY and Ding family arc is part of her “project”. She healed, she retrieved the edict, she proved Muyang’s crimes. What exactly did ML do? I feel like the writer did him dirty, he didn’t even accomplish anything on the first half.. not even participating in clearing his own family name. Yes.. yes it’s partly because FL didn’t tell him anything, that’s why I feel the script dis him dirty. Like he was only there to love FL.. He even become a side character at the end. The only good thing is Cheng Lei awesome portrayal and his suberb acting as MXY.
Overall I enjoyed this drama while it airs, it kept me wanting more and looking forward to watch the next episode everyday. Although not perfect.. it’s 8/10 for me, although it has potential to be 10/10. the last few episodes feel like a happy end for the sake of happy end
The emotional setup was a 10/10, but the payoff was a 4/10. It kept raising the stakes with heartbreaking moments,…
Well said.. from ep 1-35 it was all good, but the last 4 to 5 ep felt flat. MXY became a side character. The set up was good but the delivery on the final arc was lacking.. like having good appetizer and main but a meh dessert. Still a good drama, but the ending is a happy end for the sake of happy end
Okay for those (including me) that feel the missing potential of more intimate and romantic scenes.. i love the slow, thin, tender romance that this show portrays, and let just think of those as a natural thing that happen to husband and wife.. whether they show us or not, I believe it all happens behind the scenes loll Just like they won’t show us the characters go to toilet 😂 We know they go but no need to show us..
There, this thought at least makes me accept the flaw a bit more 😂
hahah seriously i saw people giving 6 or 5 to this drama i think we didnt watch the same thing
Agree! I LOVE this drama, but it had potential of 10/10 but after I watched the finale i can feel that it lacked something from how some scenes are abruptly cut. It will be better if they don’t have those scenes at all if they were going to cut them anyway (in my opinion)
Ι feel a bit cheated. A lot of screen time created possibilities that led nowhere. The 2FL and the assassin didn't…
I agree on this.. love the overall plot but some screentime I really don’t feel like it belonged or lead to anything.. like the scene of yeli with han ming xi, so wasted 😂
that was pure meanness on the part of the director....could have given us one good kiss at the end 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yeah 😭 i dunno if it’s the director or the censorship.. it just seems like somehow lacking. It would have been a perfect 10/10 score for me if they added the last battle scene and a kiss scene in the last 4 ep. But nevertheless, good drama.. i enjoyed it
Don’t get me wrong I LOVE this drama.. Super good plot and chemistry albeit lack of passion romance..
But anyone else think that some scenes are abruptly cut? Like MXY winning battle, and the last episode seems like they abruptly cut a kiss scene (during their late night convo in the tent) I dunno, the cut was a bit weird and not smooth for me..
Idk guys. I think some are being too hard on the ML and forget that he isn’t privy to all of the information…
Agree with this comment and in his POV, FL married him out of duty, and because of it she felt lonely in the mansion till the extend of hallucinating. So he said to her, her debt is paid, she didn’t need to stay by his side, - being lonely, missing her Lishan family - out of obligation and debt anymore. Thus he thought by divorcing her, he set her free.
Remember his conversation with his sister in law? His brother also sent divorce letter to her sister in law out of love, with the intention of setting her free..
It’s the same here… That’s why he is so brokenhearted when Yeli left, cause he still loved her, but he thought he couldn’t accept her love out of pity. He didn’t want her to suffer beside him (as he thought she was not happy there, she mentioned she missed Lishan a lot of times).
Even though his actions were not justifiable.. I can totally understand where he comes from
I love this song because it perfectly represents the love between the ML and FL.
First lyric of the song: “Love is not just romance.” (爱不单是浪漫的事)
Their love progression is so subtle and gentle, unlike the usual idol drama romance filled with intense yearning. They heal together, learn to become better versions of themselves, and eventually find it in their hearts to forgive each other. The chemistry is not shown by kissing or slow motion sexual tension, but by small daily interactions and emotions.. It’s a very different romance, and I personally love it! For me, I can feel the romance and the chemistry
Just like the title says, love is really more than that. (爱,不止如此)
You know what wouldn't be realistic? If the ML was so blinded by love that after finding out his family and 30,000 soldiers died because of the FL's family, he just hugged her and said, "I love you no matter what." Come on, 30,000 people died because of it.
What makes it even more painful is that he loved her deeply. The deeper the love, the deeper the sense of betrayal when the truth comes out. Of course he would feel conflicted. Of course he would be angry.
And what he can't accept isn't just what happened—it's the idea that she stayed by his side out of guilt, debt, or pity. That's also very realistic. He spent eight years crippled and living with that trauma. Most people in his position wouldn't want to be pitied either. They would want to be loved for who they are, not because someone feels responsible for them.
What I like is that the ML feels like a real person. He has trauma, anger, disappointment, and conflicting emotions. That doesn't mean everything he did was right—he did break his promise to her—but his feelings are completely understandable.
As for the FL, we all know she loves him. But part of what drives her is also guilt, a sense of debt, and the need to redeem her mother's mistakes. We know Ali is strong and determined; she's not someone who would quietly accept a false accusation.
Deep down, even though she loves him, she knows her actions were also motivated by that sense of responsibility and indebtedness. That's why she didn't defend herself or argue back. And why didn't she tell him sooner? Because she knew what she had done was wrong, and she was afraid of how he would react.
That's what makes both characters feel human. They both have flaws, they both made mistakes, and they both have valid feelings.
For me, this isn't a story where one side is completely right and the other is completely wrong. It's two flawed people dealing with the consequences of a tragedy much bigger than themselves.
I’m currently at Episode 21 and really loving this drama. I can understand why some viewers feel the romance…
What frustrates me a bit now is how I wished they work together a bit more, especially Ye Li..
And i know there will be separation arc from some clips and spoilers, I just hope it doesn’t get too dragged or happened too late in the series, so we still get more episodes of them working together and being sweet at each other
I’m currently at Episode 21 and really loving this drama. I can understand why some viewers feel the romance is slow, but I also think it makes sense within the story.
The FL doesn't seem to be in the right state of mind yet—she's living almost as if she's following a checklist. She may already have feelings for the ML, but she hasn't truly opened her heart.
Right now, her focus is on curing his leg, while the ML is gradually falling in love with her and beginning to understand her condition. It feels like the next romance arc will be his turn to heal her emotional wounds and earn her love in return.

Hope they don’t drag this suzuidie and princess thing for too long
