I couldn't make it through the Journey of Flower, that did bore me :/ It might be because I watched other modern similar dramas before watching that one, and also hearing that season 2/Part 2 tanked.

I think this work is completely fiction. Not based on any particular social norms from any Dynasty. It incorporates styles and aesthetics from multiple dynasties though. I'm not sure if it was ever said it represented any time period.
