So starting around 2019 the rules were changed, now the most an actor can get per drama is supposed to be around 50M RMB. I updated my figure above as the article said $7.5M USD which is around 50M RMB. However it seems that many of the traffic actors are getting money from endorsements these days. So I think Reba has almost 30 so you can imagine that's a lot of $ per year. I read an article that once mentioned an artist like Kris Wu was getting 10M-15M RMB a year per endorsement. Xiao Zhan probably gets at least 20M RMB per endorsement.

Last I heard, Reba was commanding 100M RMB per drama which was pretty much the top, but this was before the China crackdown on the entertainment industry. I think actor's can't get beyond $7.5M and total actor salaries cannot be beyond 70% of the cost of total production. Yeah, I assume that the drama/role and opportunity to boost her career also come into play aside from budget. Sometimes a drama say take LoF for example, the actor's salaries are so high that often it leaves not as much money for production, so it's a fine balance there too. Prosecution Elite is very competitive - based on gossip there was a lot of interest from A listers for the lead female and male role and also since it's going to be on CCTV, it probably doesn't need to pay top dollar necessarily but this is just my theories, so take it with a grain of salt. Not sure what kind of salaries the other actors command but Reba can probably command as much as Yang Mi, ZLY, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo for example.

So I have Tencent Video, I guess I won't be able to watch it. Does anyone know how to get a YouKu subscription? I see there's YouKu on YouTube, anyone have experience with the subscription on YouTube? Is it English Sub and comes out right away?

It's ok, I know that some dramas like Legend of Fei and Golden Hairpin were way more, however those dramas were longer and much more costly to film (costume vs modern). Also having 2 traffic stars is expensive in LoF and GHP. I heard Word of Honor was only 50M RMB (but this was before GJ and ZZH were famous).

Update - I just heard GHP costed at least $45M USD.
