Four heart-warming stories in one series!
Being relatively new to KDrama and still learning some of the stereotypes, I really enjoyed that there was more than just a main and one side relationship to enjoy watching.
There was nothing wrong with the ML and FL chemistry but it wasn't what made me ship them - instead it was a strong desire to see the emotional resolve that kept me interested. I think there was something nostalgic about teenage romance when you feel misunderstood and wish you could find the right words to convince the other person. It's not realistic, but most people have had the experience where you wish you could just show your crush how sincere you are, and if only they saw that, they would come rushing (back) to you. That is very much the vibe from ML perspective which had me identify with him.
At the same time, I did not like that he was not honest, and it made it much harder - or at least not as simple - to just hope the FL falls for him. But maybe that complication, that he was not making perfect decisions, also made it feel more vulnerable and realistic in a way (even though there was a lot of the show that was not realistic at all!).
My recommendation is not to get too rational digging into the plot holes, just embrace the sentimental side of being misunderstood and then understood and accepted - it's full of tears (both sad and happy) and ultimately leaves you full of warm fuzzies.
The real MVPS? The other romances! If it wasn't for these being so well written to complement the main story arc, the series would have felt far too long. Let's be honest - it is already pushing a lot of repeated flashbacks and replays to pad out 12 episodes! The other romances make it worth watching and keep you entertained. The young couple - a little irritating with their overdone crying and baby talk - were actually endearing and made you want to believe in young naive love again. Ha-Young (middle sister) was one of my favourite characters - her interactions and energy was just awesome to watch, and I like that they paired her up with someone so quiet, straight and disciplined to contrast. Man-jae has just got to be cutest guy ever, an absolute rock for several characters to rely on. All in all these side romances provided some comedy relief as well as drama and genuine romance in their own ways. It helped make the show much more well-rounded.
I don't expect everyone to like this show, but for those of who did - and anyone going through the withdrawals right now - sending you a big virtual hug. ("I have a habit of hugging people..." who liked this show?)
