I am not expecting you to agree. That statement is my opinion. It might not make nice reading to XZ fans but they are my opinion and entitled to write them out, especially if that other poster felt the need to let others know all co-stars needed to audition hard to get a gig on this drama. If you feel that is unkind, then so be it.

BTW, it is not XZ, it is the people he is surrounded with that are pushing him in this direction. I am sure XZ just want to act full stop, rather than slowing down and having bigger gaps to wait for the next select project to come along.

Good to see some rational fans. And I know there are. It is unfortunate that on MDL, some of the most vocal ones are inadvertently damaging his good reputation. It's almost like he has to deal with the embarrassing mother at the school gates!

I can have a nice and healthy discussion on the drama and the actors of choice any other time. But responding to someone that I feel have got it wrong about auditioning because I don't agree with that comment is unhealthy according to you, I think you are the defensive one.

And where did I dream about other characters not being central? Check, I have made zero comments about that. I am well aware of the drama lay out and how it will pan out, so I am not your imaginary 'delusional' anti fan that you seem to be quite obsessed about. I was responding to a comment about auditioning.

Regarding your last paragraph, I was responding to a poster claiming to be a XZ fan, who talked down to others and condescendingly stated they all had to audition hard to get a place to be in "Xiao Zhan's Drama". Now tell me, am I expected to agree when I don't agree with this remark?

I only replied from that and then mentioned WDX (to whom I am not a fan of) because to my mind, this actor has a fair bit of respect inside China and well liked too. That someone like him scrambling to try and get a gig on this drama made me laugh. It just seems quite out of touch and a bit cringey. Now you're going to tell me this is bad behaviour?

I will always be fair and civil even if I disagree. But using poor XZ to bully others in such a blatant way, I cannot sit back and let that happen and go unchallenged. If you wish to paint me as some nasty piece of work, go ahead, I can accept that.

If other posters will find the time to read through the historic posts, they will see that there was a handful of so-called XZ fans mocking potential co-stars by repeating anyone that is not his fan are merely jealous and venting their anger at XZ. Reap what you sow is exactly what I stick with. I only react like with like. If openly responding to a poster that talks down to potential co-stars and their view on auditioning is so problematic for you, then stay away from the discussion. This isn't just a one-man-band drama.

I can't speak for the other poster Kokuto as I am not specifically a TJC fan. I admire some of his dramas just like I admire some of XZ works. It's not a crime to be that way?

As for WDX, I stated clearly I am not a fan of him, but it is a bit comical to state by a so-called XZ supporter in this drama, saying support actors needed to work hard to audition on one of XZ's dramas. If that's not comical, I don't know what is.

I think some of these fandoms have been in their little echo chamber for too long, they're growing a bit out of touch with the real world. For actors like WDX or Lan Ying Ying, it's just another gig in their career. And they didn't need to audition because sadly in China, that is not happening much anymore, unless a very specific director demands it, and on projects like this, it's connections.

That poster did that to put other actors down to uplift their fave. You reap what you sow. That is why you will see my comment, you play below belt, I will do the same too.

Just so others are aware when they come to this page, thinking it's just a normal drama page please be aware that by making comments like I disagree with your assessment of how the Chinese dramas industry works, the usual suspects pile in to play victim by putting down other actors in this drama and then claiming it's the other way round.

A common tactic seen and to be honest quite tiresome. They claim they're the victims and then block you (which has happened in my case) so they think they have the final say.

The reason why the forum turns negative is due to their insistence of being picked on readily and shamelessly using XZ as their excuse. To any passerby that happens to chance on this page, don't allow the multi accounts try to intimidate or hound you out of the page. They don't know the meaning of sharing a drama page with others that may not be that interested in their own fave so they consistently repeat other fandoms are picking on their faves, when in reality, I have seen little of that.

Please watch out for these particular posters that try to act the victim (but done poorly) Liz Florez, AndiFlowers, Nap Time, Cooloria, Laughing Stars & brighstar. Just a side note they're probably just 2 people because they can't seem to conceal their writing styles 😉

There were 3 posters that actively have been on his drama pages and they have posted condescending remarks on any co-stars likely to be on this drama and they are well known users here. Some of these users are no doubt the same person because they simply cannot quite conceal their writing style. It's OK, those that keep advocating others to deal with their mental state, as the saying goes, it takes one to know one.

Where is that? Do find it, as it is you that seem to be spouting dishonest content here. To anyone who sees this, someone standing up for another poster for merely mentioning Ren Jia Lun in another drama warrants a torrent of posts from some XZ fans if you want to know.

This is the level of bullying and control on his drama pages. If by standing up and asking where on the forum it states you cannot bring another actor's name as a comparison, you folded and resorted to name calling the usual stuff. I have never not acknowledged XZ is not the main lead. And if you check properly you will see I was responding to a poster that was originally belittling others and claiming other actors had to audition hard to be in a drama with XZ. That was why I responded, because I did not agree to that assessment.

I also stated clearly who I was following, hence my arrival here. I would say it's pretty normal on a drama discussion page to write why I think they got it wrong with the audition comment. Check all my posts and I have never denied he is ML. Is that so hard for you to check? Or you rather repeat like a robot the same thing over and over again?

I know why you need to do that. You have nothing else to say other than label anyone and everyone as toxic when they come here to make a normal discussion about the drama other than to kneel down to just praise XZ. I have news for you, a drama is made up of numerous actors, so it is you who need to learn how to accept other people's views. I don't subscribe to a narrow set of rules normally concocted by paranoid fandoms. Acting like there is some mini war out there, so they tell others how they should act or behave on forums. This is a public drama forum for all users from all fandoms or drama lovers. Not just for main lead fandom to lord it over others and belittling others that are here for other actors other than the leads. Last I checked, that was permitted. Are you really interested in dramas or his acting? You are merely riding off his coat tails. He gives you a nice reason to try and put others down. I see this often. It may come as a surprise to you. Not everyone is as shallowlistic as you for reading off toe curling list of his achievements. Others just enjoy some actors for their roles or their acting, and shock horror... they do not need any awards or "fame" to be recognised. Being popular does not make you a successful actor by the way.

Makes them look very silly. Especially seeing the type of cast members on this drama, I doubt many are scrambling to be on this drama as the poster claims. The comment is toe curling. It's these types of comments that makes poor XZ look like he's simply been used by insecure people to be self important and talk down to others.

To be honest, it happens with all fandoms. It's just the way it is. The main thing is, there is also an obsession of trying to assert the ML is the ML. Any female characters are not FL. I have not seen that other view than the ML's fans that keep having to repeat it. The blame is on who allowed any of these names to be put into this drama at this given time.

I think, one look at the cast list bandied about, it's going to be an ensemble cast. The few XZ fans are jumping at shadows and making the environment difficult for a natural discussion on the drama.

Well, if I come across as miserable, it must be catching from the tone of some of these other posters here.

I enjoy some of Tan Jianci's works but will not class myself as some active fandom. I am a drama fan first and foremost. I do follow a few actors and actresses I have seen here and there, but would not consider myself madly devoting my time and day on everything they get up to. If they happen to be on a drama that looks interesting, I will put them on a watch list.

I don't think you really know or understand the Chinese dramas industry. In these dramas you'll find it's their agents doing the negotiations. This idea of auditioning is not as common anymore because it's all about connections I'm afraid.

I've turned up here because of Lan Ying Ying & Zhang Ya Qin. I think you'll find that actors like Xiao Zhan want to be associated with Lan Ying Ying & Wei Da Xun rather than state these actors 'work hard' to get their slots. It's just another gig for them. XZ's team are just carefully crafting themselves with the Beijing Circle because they think it uplifts his image. It's been like that for a while. It's not like how you paint it.

Also, the only negativity I can see here is a handful of miserable XZ fans jumping at their own shadows and making any comment here seem like an attack. So let's make this discussion page less defensive and more honest. With an ensemble cast you need to learn to share a space with other actors' fans. No one is saying XZ is not main lead.

I understand that but this drama had huge potential to tap into the industry and it just more of less preferred to be sour and say to the audience, it just is. I believe more than half of the audience knows how hard it is for young women entering the industry and the dangers and the unfairness, but this drama didn't want to question the whys but gave a naval gazing feel for the male characters, whilst the female characters are reduced to side parts supporting their loved ones.

I feel the drama is created by someone with no understanding or care about women in the industry. It even enforced tropey storylines for them. The whole drama reeks of men from another era writing out their subtle fantasies. In that I mean by women who are beautiful cannot get everything. There are gate keepers in the industry almost saying if you are young and beautiful you will be punished or suffer. Honestly, the tone feels that way.

I also do not feel the tempo, the editing and style was trying to create a bit of realism. If they did that, then it would feel more natural & realistic. Only naval gazing nostalgia for pretentious arts people thinking they're wronged by the world.

I agree. The role is not for him. I know the makers are trying hard not to cast a more younger actor avoiding idol style look but they're more than happy to always cast stars like Zhang Ruo Nan or Lin Yun which is typical of the old guard style of the drama industry where women must stay young and pure whilst the male cast can be older or not scoring high in the looks department!

Having said all that, Ou Hao, Yang Xu Wen or even Gao Zhi Ting might have been a better fit. Not all male actors can play cute romantic in an idealistic way.
