Both dramas deal with family life, factory workers particularly women and the changes from 1980s to 1990s. The Last Goodbye to Mama is a very heavy and insightful drama that touches on very raw and hard to deal with issues and I have never seen a Chinese drama like this, it's really a gem. It certainly puts Wang Churan on the map just like Lu Yuxio in Romance in the Alley.

Romance in the Alley is slightly more light-hearted that uses comedy in a smart way but does not shy away from issues of the time. It's highly researched and really delves into the human nature of all of us. You can feel the labour of love in every aspect of this production. Both can be regarded as similar in that sense where both concentrates on our inner self, our desires, fears and yearning.

If you like a wuxia flavour with classic medicine tropes like collecting rare herbs, historical healing methods often seen in Wuxias, secret poisons, character with a deadline with death and of course with Jianghu undertones. You will get this especially Love In Between playing homage to all the politics of rival sects and their past secrets played out.

If you like angsty romance and a ML that is often cruel with a motive then you can be sure Love in Between and Love of Nirvana serves in spades. Both have great fight scenes and both have some serious tearful moments. Most importantly, both have great music if you love music in ancient dramas.

If you like strong female leads in the police force going through personal life relationship turmoils embroidered with the case and with a strong suspense that keeps you going right up to the last minute, you can be sure Interlaced Scenes & Echo will not disappoint. Both have male side kicks that lightly compliment the FL but never trying to be equal of stronger.

If you like action with suspense and a touch of fantasy, then the Novoland series are a must, especially Eagle Flag. Eagle flag is about a trio of good buddies that set out on their journey to then find their own destiny but maintaining their strong bond throughout. Both have breathtaking sceneries and with some good fight sequences.

From the same director, producer & production house which shares 80% of the same cast. Both are thriller mysteries with reversals. If you are a fan of the director, Blemish Flaw and Heroes are a must watch.
