My thoughts on eps 18- 22 Blimey! What a jaw dropping wild ride these eps were. Let's start with Emporer and the Empress Dowager He. I can't believe that she not only killed the king and the Queen and the princes but poisoned his own son to control him! Then to claim she did it all for his sake! Then casually wiped out he4 niece HYJ's lover's whole clan. It was very satisfying to see her epic fall. I can't help but think the king might have turned out to be a good king if he was not fatally ill. Even though he knew XWY was the crown prince he never harmed him. And I have feeling that both Emporer and XWY have already come up with a plan in case LM turns out to be a bad ruler. The king was reluctant to trust LM and brought it up to XWY's attention in one of the eps, yet he handed the rulership to LM completely. In addition, XWY knew LM's lineage secret long time ago. XWY must be testing LM, waiting to see what he does before pulling out plan B. XWY quietly got captured after the frame up to see how far LM would go and what his real intentions, principles and thoughts are.
Good grief!! Just when i think LM and LLJ can't get any worse, they reach for new heights of calculative, despicable and detestable choices. It's incredible how far they have fallen from what they once were. XWY is still trying to shake LM conscienceness awake, but looks like to no avail. While LLJ promised to go to eagle king as a spy to deminish enemy's power but she is plotting to use prince yings power against XWY and his army to help secure LM's future. Heck! They are so twisted they are playing the manipulative Grand tutor as a pawn now using his obsession for revenge for An-Lu case!
I'm incredibly impressed by the XJY's confession of love to XWY!! It was deeply emotional, heart warming and beautiful! And She not only wanted to always stay by his side, she also sincerely wanted him to be caring and good to himself too. On top of that XWY's stunning acting showing how he felt about everything she said to him through quite eye acting was cherry on top. It was heart wrenching and painful how he deeply he wanted her love and wanted to be with her but knew he possibly might not live long due to his serious condition. It's very admirable how she wants to become his strongest support and help him and protect him in every possible way. Their love, understanding, sincere care and trust is very sweetly mutual. It was so cute how he was exaggerating his pain and illness to get more attention and care from XJY! Since the main leads have confirmed happy ending and RF has found the cure for XWY's condition( although he is reluctant to try it) I'm positive he will be cured eventually🥰✌️.
I absolutely love how much empowerment is given to women in Xiao household. HYJ loves to study history and became Clan He's leader, RF a single mom abandoned and condoned by her family became miraculous doctor and XJY thrived to become genius mechanic, while YY is a skilled martial artist and NX has photographic memory and fine talent for business dealings.
I'm very satisfied with XJY's character development, she has become much more sharper, stronger in her lightness skill, couragious, wise, resourceful, confident, world savvy while keeping her explorative, adventurous spirit, bold, and witty self intact after going through all the harsh situations and events - painful partings and betrayals etc. Loved how she showed LM that even if he moves against XWY and become king, her heart only belongs to XWY! Disgracefully and shamelessly LM blames XWY for loosing her! I'm glad XWY made it clear to him that it was because LM chose himself.
The drama is getting better and better! Looking forward to epic action in the next eps!!
OMG! XWY finally confessed his feelings to XJY, i must admit! it was most non cliché way to actualize it! Simply loved how it was executed! It was beautiful how he helped XJY to reclaim her mother body, and what?! he really said her words are law that day!! How to get a man like XWY!
XJY is super clever, she was tricking everyone to find out the truth after all, she had her doubts and she cleared them in very smart ways. She even figured out that XWY is the crown prince! It was so funny that XWY cutely acknowledged that she has gotten sharper but she should give it a rest too. And it was so sweet that he made the flat bread for her himself! He even sold off his most cherished horse for her while being short on money! Okay It was so heart warming that he was excited and happy she made a special sword for him but more then that he wanted her heart!
XWY is extremely soft hearted, gentle, caring, sweet and very sensitive to her wishes! Really makes me wonder where did the ruthless, fierce, strict and steeled General with dark Aura go?! This man's heart is made out of gold! Not only he is extremely thoughtful, he worries and cares about his beloved, his family and friends, he stops at nothing to protect and help the people and the army.
Grand tutor genuinely looked distraught at loosing his wife and like I guessed he really didn't know crown prince was alive and it is XWY.
LLJ is becoming more and more unhinged. She even wanted to kill the witness and their whole family after killing princess YZ who saved her life by curing her illness. XWY and XJY got her, LM, grand tutor and Empress good! They cleverly beat them in their own game! They didn't know what hit them! LLJ even shamelessly tried to make XJY feel guilty that she spared her life, what about XJY saving her life when she was being sent off to northern qin in political marriage.
The scene where XWY and LM had good word with each other then walking off in the opposite direction was a iconic scene, symbolic of how a huge chasm is developing between their once good friendship.
I can’t wait for the next eps! But at the same time i am getting sadder that the drama is coming closer and closer to the end! I need 40+ eps for this masterpiece drama!

I really liked Princess YZ and XJY's teacher YXL, they were very lovely and interesting characters. To think that Princess YZ was sending Grand tutor clue that there was something off about CJ elder brother of Queen WX. Trying to help him get to the bottom of the case he is obsessed with - the case about the brutal and unjust massacreof An and lu familes. It seems grand Tutor's scheming is all about getting revenge no matter what the cost. And i have a feeling he doesn't know XWY is the crown prince WX because he was wondering why would Princess YZ and XWJ work together to collect the pheonix heart tokens when LLJ sent him secret message.
It was very cute how XJY's small gestures of care and trust would make him smile and be happy. He has started to understand that she has developed feelings for him too but she is reluctant to admit it for her own reasons. It was kind of shocking to see her doubting XWJ but i suspect she did that to make LM suspect his own sister and find out if she did something. Before they went for mandatory army service, there were big debates at what age they should go or whether they should go and serve. That’s when i found out that in certain east asian countries traditionally people's age is taken as 1 year old when they are born. It was so sweet to see XWY's family having fun and getting along so well! Its so refreshing! In historical dramas all wives are always at each other throats plotting against each other. But they are like BFFs 🫂 💓, supporting and sincerely caring for each other in every aspect. XWY is a sweet heart looking after all of them so well, taking care of their needs and wishes and nurturing their skills, goals, careers and respecting their boundaries while providing them all with societal, financial and physical protection. Thanks to XJY, mom has become closer to him and it was very heart warming to she her showering her love and care at him and worrying about him.
XWY is so cute! When XJY was trying to strike a business deal with Prince Ying and XWY found out, I was like OH OH here comes angst because of misunderstanding but I was blown out if the park when he explained he was angry about her exposing herself and her identity to the enemies! And he in future as he won't be there to protect her, she can be in serious danger!! What a warm hearted and sweet man!! He already figured out she didn't make any stupid deals either! the level of understanding and trust these two have is reaching insane levels! Similarly, when XWY is being grilled by his best friend not trusting him that he will somehow save his sister, XJY knows that he means to do that while keeping the peace talks and army reforms as top porority, even he was shocked with this level of insight and understanding.
I loved the scene where LM and XWJ faced each other over XJY! So XWJ fell in love with her at first sight. 😍 he is always trying to keep his original promise to his friend and trying his best to uphold XJY's choice to either leave with LM to travel the world or stay he will support it while crushing his own wishes as always. And LM has already made up his mind to go back on his promises to XJY. But I can see that LM can already see XJY has started to fall for XWJ. She is now in the process of realizing it and admitting it to herself and making the final decision of choosing what she wants after looking deep into her heart and analyzing everything. I like the cute, sweet, funny, and chaotic dynamic their of slow burn chemistry.
While understanding LM's difficulties and the unfairness he faces since childhood and his wish to have power so that he isn't left at others mercy, he definitely knows he is now commiting evil to get to his goals. He doesn’t want to be pawn yet he is allowing himself to ge led by the nose by Grand tutor! Then he was happily choosing many consorts as stepping stones to further his own selfish greed. He knows his actions are selfish and have impure attentions yet he is deluding himself that they are for the just cause. He is even ready to abandon XJY for his ambitions. He has chosen to mistrust his friend and audacity to doubt his intentions while openly admitting to from now on doing whatever wrong he needs to commit to get what he wants for himself. Has he even thought that would his sister hr loves so much, would even want him to do these things to save her. if she finds these things out she would be thoroughly disappointed. Although, he feels like lost cause I am hoping their is still shred of conscience left in him to turn around at some point, and hopefully not too late.
