I have to wait and see the reviews first before jumping in. I'm still traumatized from Sword and Beloved 🫠…
I won’t say I’m a die-hard Cheng Yi fan, but I first noticed him in MLC, and I think he has the potential to become a solid actor. So I’m keeping an eye on his new projects. Honestly, though, I couldn’t finish most of his older dramas—perhaps the storylines just didn’t resonate with me. Only MLC, Draw the Line, and Deep Lurk made it to my finish list. Still, I made my bet on Sword and Beloved… and wow what an experience 😂. Why can’t he just get a solid - proper script? I thought after MLC’s success, good roles would come knocking, but nope—guess I was too optimistic.
For me, MLC is good and suits my taste. Maybe you can try a few episodes and see if it clicks for you. It can be considered as wuxia, right?

This year is really Cheng Yi’s year. Three dramas in a year is quite a lot, but unfortunately none of them have become a hit yet. It’s sad, though—after the hype of MLC’s success, he hasn’t been able to maintain the same script quality. Hopefully this "Vendetta of an" will be a good one. But honestly, after the last two disappointing dramas, I feel like I need a break from his projects until the reviews come out with something promising.
Can anyone tell me which one is better — Because of Love or this one? I’ve already been tricked enough by Sword and Beloved, and I don’t think I can handle another one.
I reckon you are onto something lol(Though tbf this isn't bad-- just a massive letdown of a second half after…
I laughed so much reading your comment! I honestly didn’t mind if QT had to die in the end, but please don’t make FG do the killing. It just felt like it dirtied FG’s pure soul, you know? Especially when she’s someone who’s supposed to be your lover in the original story (even though they’re not in the series, but it still hit me hard that FG was the one who killed QT).
So i believe in the end, they disappeared together. He purposely saved her soul to wait for him to return and…
If only the script had provided a clearer closure at the end, it would have been much more satisfying. 1. The scene where FG and QT disappear together, and then QT suddenly turns back into a spider with a blue butterfly approaching her, feels confusing. Couldn’t they have made it clearer? I understand that FG had to die as a sacrifice—that part makes sense. But why didn’t they show a scene where only FG disappears and QT turns back into a spider? That way, we wouldn’t have to speculate whether the spider and butterfly scene was just an illusion. 2. It’s really hard to accept that FG had to kill QT. If they had made the first point clearer, I could have interpreted it as FG simply returning QT to her spider form instead of literally killing her. After all, he was the one who gave QT her human form in the first place, so taking that back would be more logical—and easier to accept.
But instead, the scriptwriter left everything unresolved, forcing us to speculate until the very end. Even FG and QT’s relationship throughout the series is difficult to define. It’s so ambiguous that it’s hard to say what kind of relationship they truly had.
A huge number of users have rated this series — far more than other shows airing at the same time. That’s the power of CY’s fan base. The numbers are actually scary. I’d say this series wouldn’t even get a 6 if it weren’t for CY.
Why the hell he had to kill her. !! I wish romance bloomed with main cp. And both of their characters developed…
Some Redditors have been analyzing this too — one even suggested they could’ve asked the Tushan family for a grief seed since they exist in the same universe. Honestly, I like that idea way better than killing QT. The fact that FG killed QT is just hard to accept. They’ve come up with so many illogical ways to save bad people before, and now they couldn’t think of a single excuse? They really twisted the story and the whole IP irrationally.
