Strong acting group, very good stroy

I was waited for this drama since last year. I read the original story, I love both leads for their acting capabilities. Zhang BinBin is a very versatile actor who can act in various personalities and portray the emotions by his eyes. The FL is a very good actress as well. The whole cast were very strong in their act and their chemistry was so good.
The 3D views were very amazing as well. It was clear that there was a lot of time and budget was behind it. I was very happy to see every moment of it.
The music was exciting and full of emotion and matched with the story .
Now let's go to the story itself. Warning ⚠️ there are some spoil in the following text.
The story at the begining was matched with the original story wich make it really strong. The small changes were make it even better in some cases. And I have to say the original story with all of its plot twists were very good and attractive for me. But in the drama from the awakening of demon lord the twists were to bring the second ML to a good light while he was not in the original story and make an unknown higher power the bad character. I didn't like this version of ending it didn't make any sense. It was like they wanted to create a good character out of a dark character by forcing an altered story which didn't make sense at the end either. Because when I watched the last episode until the end. The ending didn't make any sense. Not the waking up not the xie xuchen personality which was mixed of demon lord Zhao ming with Xie Xuchen. Non of it fall in the right position for me. Although I like the whole drama and even its story line was really good but if I want to choose among the ending, I would choose the ending of the original story not the ending of the drama eventhough nothing changed for the 3 leads character. But the original story was more exciting and make more sense.
The only reason that I didn't give it the full 10 score is the ending ( notice it is a good ending).

Must watch

It is a very strong story with a combination of strong cast. Since I try to not spoil anything in here, I go with a short review. The storyline is really good. The character development was amazing. It has a little bit of mysterious vibe at first which was solved very on time since it is not a mysterious genre and they didn't make it a boring story around a small mystery. The story line was very good all around. It has a strong bromance which was developed through the story and also team development between the characters was really good.
The act of the two MLs was amazing. Very much complementary of each others. Both amazing actors. Also all of the side characters have their own stories which were developed so good. The acting of the majority of actors and actresses were really good, specially those older ones.
I recommend it highly to watch it and if you are into rewatch, it is even worthy of rewatching.

A very good plot and story with an exaggerated a little bit bad ending

I don't know why so many people rated it so low. It is very interesting, absorbing and exciting drama. Even it had 50 episode and I didn't like its ending but throughout the whole series, the story was so good that I watched it twice already. From the begining to the end I can't see any problem except for the last episode. Amasing plot, good costum, very well acting, a lot of good actors, so much chemistry, and very good music.
The only cons of this drama was its last episode. Even though some how it was counted as a happy ending (between ML and FL) but there were so many death at the end which some were really unnecessay among the important characters of the drama. Not mentioning the unnecessary scene for the fall of ML to then bring him back out of nowhere. So the only and only reason I won't give this drama 10 score is those death that were not really necessary and even were cause a break to the logic of this drama. Otherwise it is worth watching it and even the last episode don't make me regret it even a bit. Also, because it wasn't a bad ending for the Leads I've watched it twice.

Good Story

At first, I began this drama because of BinBin (I like him a lot because he is a versatile actor and I know his acting never disappoints me unless I drop the drama because of the storyline). Even though there are a lot of dramas that I drop midway or they become pretty annoying and long, Song of the Moon is not lengthy compared to other XianXia/Wuxia dramas. It is not very unique but it has some unique features to itself. If you are a fan of this genre and fantasy series it can be satisfying. The same as every other series it has its pros and cons which I will mention here.

Pros:
1. Capable actors all around this series. All five main actors were very capable and matched with their respective characters. There is a lot of chemistry between all the couples and friends in this drama (honestly all the actors were matched perfectly with their characters, I was wondering how all of these actors gather together).
2. The main story and side stories are moving forward together and they become intertwined with each other.
3. In this story there were a lot of gray characters among both immortals and demons. Almost nobody was evil from the beginning to the end. It showed how desires and actions can mix together and create good or bad results. This part of this drama was so realistic and unique among the Xianxia dramas. I like this feature to the point that I like to rewatch this drama only because of this feature.
4. I like the ML (Zhang BinBin) as 3 very different characters. He nailed all the characters pretty well. While he portrayed all the differences between them and the instance changes between Lu Ge and Dark Moonlight, he also showed the intertwined moments of Lu Li and Lu Ge with each other. So I never become tired of his acting and roles.
5. The costume was pretty good, especially for the Demon King (He Na). We always see demons in darker shades of colour but for me, it is the first time to see a demon in white and it was absolutely matched with his perfect personality.
6. The music was very good and it was not disturbing.

Okay, it is time for the Cons:
1. Between episodes 22 to 30 it becomes a little bit annoying and dragging with despicable acts from those gray characters which can make some viewer desire to drop it in this part (*Warning*: there are a lot of important events in this part which answer a lot of questions, so if you fast forward this part you will miss a lot and make you confused at the end. I noticed this from some of the comments).
2. The childish voice of the female actresses (both Luo Ning and Liu Shao). Honestly, who created this thought that if a fully grown woman has the voice of a 5-year-old kid make her cute? I almost become allergic to it.
3. Well, I think the biggest disadvantage of this drama was its ending. I will explain the ending in the next paragraph please be aware of the spoil alert.

The Ending:
Since the ending is very important to me I checked its ending before I began to watch it. So I found out, it has 2 types of endings. I don't like to watch more than one ending, so I always pick one ending in both novels and movies with more than one ending (because it can mess with my feelings towards that story). I picked the one with the happier ending (episode 40). So, I can't talk about the other ending because I will never watch that episode. The reason that I picked this episode is because Lu Ge and Liu Shao get together at the end. It also has some other good points like the fate of He Na and the action of A Fu because I couldn't see any other way for him to redeem himself after 37 episodes of wrongdoings.
But there were a lot of cons to this ending all of them were because of the rushed ending:
1. First there were some confusing moments like the wedding. It was all of a sudden without any opening and explanation of why this happened only the voice of God of Moonlight which didn't have any mention of a wedding.
2. Second I could understand how the seal of Liu Shao's ascension to God was broken but how she went back in time was not clear at all. The last episode was a very rushed episode to finish the story.
3. The third aspect, I didn't like about the ending was too little screen time for Dark Moonlight. From the beginning to the end, we heard about that evil character while we saw all types of evil actions from others or mixing of this evil being with other characters but the moment that the Dark Moonlight came to life we couldn't see a lot. The screen time for him is too short to show anything. So the only thing that I saw was a gorgeous devilish guy with a lot of charm who did what bad thing exactly? Ah, he killed only 2 characters who caused a lot of destruction through the drama. So anyway it was too hard to hate that character and the only reason was short screen time.

Based on all of it together I could ignore the disadvantages in the last episode and even watch it for the second time. So I suggest this drama to those who like a fantasy with some realistic characters, an interesting story, and a big group of talented cast.

Straightforward romance story with superb main leads

I enjoyed this drama first because of the straightforward romance story with highly talented actors as the main couple. The story of both leads as individuals was different from the majority of stories we see in C-dramas or K-dramas. It is not all around their love and relationship and we can connect with their story and growth as individual persons. Also, both Zhang BinBin and Janice Wu's acting are really top-notch with a lot of chemistry between them.
Here shows the process of FL's growth without a bunch of jealous people causing problems because of her relationship with ML. She learned and discovered her potential throughout the work handling without ML being her saviour. ML help her and stand beside her whenever is needed but he is not the saviour and the same was for FL. So you see the strong FL and you can see the process of her growth and very patient ML who finds the way to his interest at the end.
As for their romance is very straightforward, not a long break-up or antagonistic third party. The majority of the time they solve their problems by speaking (better say by Kissing). Nothing in the story remained unexplained or vague.

The only problem for me was the acting and story of some of the side characters, especially the second couple of the story, I couldn't connect with their chemistry and their story.
In conclusion, I enjoyed watching this drama it was so relaxing and exciting as well. I really liked the ML character (Xu Yan Shi) portrayed by ZBB and his chemistry with FL. I also like to watch it again.
