How do we know she wasn't a spoilt princess growing up? We only see one aspect of her life and yes, it was really, really bad, but I can make up a whole drama about her in my head and how she arrived at that point, which added to her sociopathic/spoilt/whatever personality so that when she finally came back to power, she was an even worse person.
