There’s only 6 episodes out. I wasn’t sure at first either but I gave it a shot. After 1 episode, I still wasn’t sure. I guess that’s why six episodes were released because that’s one case and episode six leaves you on a cliffhanger on the second case. There’s an overarching mystery and I have a feeling the main protagonist needs to solve a bunch of minor mysteries to obtain clues for the major mystery.

I moved on to Ancient Detectives and dropped My Roommate is a Detective. The first 6 episodes are promising. Still a cliched situation but there are enough clues and fake clues (misdirections) to keep my head working. very interesting. Hope it gets better. There’s an over arching mystery and smaller mysteries wherever he goes.

It is funny and light hearted but the plot and mystery cases aren’t very clever. It is like the audience was treated like idiots especially the first case of the mirrored restroom. One the idea of a mirrored room is cliched, two the doctor appearing in the murder scene is highly suspicious, three the doctor explains that he pulled out the knife in the victim’s chest in an effort to save him ... I was in disbelief. And he claims he graduated from Harvard!! ( I was watching Forensic Heroes 4 with my family. We had a small discussion that a serious stab wound can lead to severe bleeding if the knife was pulled out.) My mandarin isn’t perfect so I might have misheard some info. I really wish she kept her role as yan yan/ princess diji in the killing of three thousand crows. I started liking her portrayal of the character when the drama suddenly switched her for another actress. (Honestly I feel a little betrayed. I was beginning to root for her character.) I found it hard to convince myself that both actress are the same person especially since the 2nd actress has a completely different persona than the first actress. The 2nd actress’ portrayal is much more exaggerated (maybe the script calls for this type of exaggerated comedic kind of acting, but i feel disconnected from this character after the swap). Now I’m just trying to see if jiang yi yi acted in any other costume drama so that I can satisfy this discontent aftertaste left over from watching the killing of three thousand crows. (It’s still a pretty interesting drama. The male leads acting is consistent with his character.)

I haven’t watch the other versions, but this drama is unexpectedly good. I hope it ends well.
