Just so so
I was very excited to watch this series. And I started a with very little expectations or information about it however I hoped that it would be a good one because I enjoy historical pieces. Overall the series started out great. It was fun, interesting and upbeat. The beginning had a bit of an intrigue to it because you were able to see a little bit of both worlds and how each person lived. Even when the event happened that brought them together there was still a bit of excitement and humor.
What I liked:
The cast did an amazing job portraying royalty. The acting was wonderful. The wardrobes were perfect and the set/scenery always fit the mood. They loyalty/love that the ML had for his brother and wife was genuine and perfect. The ML remained unchanged in his role as smart, loyal and honest. It was nice to see this. The Female lead was just as loyal and even more determined while also maintaining her sense of honor. I loved it because you often see the opposite in these types. Music matched the mood and scenes which only added to the value.
What I didn’t like:
-There was plotting in nearly episode, so much so that it became unenjoyable. There was never a moment of peace or simple joy to enjoy, which made it feel like a stress session.
-The second FL was in to many places and doing to many things. Not sure how but it was overkill.
-There were so many moments that people acted on assumptions which demonstrates poor maturity, i.e, “my cat went missing near your house. It was you. You stole it” or “it’s your fault I’m miserable, if only you hadn’t came home early.” It’s things of this nature that frustrate me because in this time period assumptions often lead to death. This made most of them seem like greedy idiots.
-Chemistry between left the show and didn’t return.
-Extreme hatred/Revenge from what appears to be a one time event.
-The good guys appear to be the eternal underdogs. Although there were moments that were victorious, it appears that karma left the show with chemistry.
The show has its good points with makes it worth watching, however I would have enjoyed it a bit more if some of the characters had a shred of decency and the balance of power/upper hand didn’t feel so one sided. Also would have loved to see more interpersonal relationship dynamics.
It should be noted that karma was off set during filming.
This is not a romantic series. It’s a big time plotting historical drama that revolves around a couple that loves each other.
