This drama was all about warmth and healing. No drama can be perfect and if you really look for it, then there would always be untied ends or imperfections. However, in the end its all about the vibes and this one got it right. And the cinematography in this one was soooo lovely and perfect! In all, the finale didn't disappoint me at all and was everything and more that I could've ever hoped for - warm, beautiful and cute, making me smile ear to ear! :)

I hesitated a lot before watching this show because I had heard that it wasn't faithful to it's source material. However, I am glad I watched it looking past whatever I had just heard. I have not read the Webtoon. I would understand if anyone who has read the Webtoon would feel otherwise annoyed because the expectations of the person changes accordingly. But, personally, as a person who has not read the Webtoon and hence, didn't have any preconceived notions or major spoilers, this was a great show. Also, Park Ji Hoon's acting was a surprise. He didn't just play the role, he embraced it fully. Though, this show isn't for everyone because it deals with pretty heavy stuff. In all, I really loved the show and I am just happy that I gave it a chance. However, this made me miss my College days (in a good way) when we were on campus instead of online classrooms, there were fests, CCs and that one professor who would always give the 'TALK' or tell personal stories! :)

Just wanna say, poor Arisu legit became the in-house/Beach's personal punching bag! Also, my favorite scene was when they were on bicycle and Arisu asks Usagi if she really didn't know how to ride. This one scene after all the pain and Arisu's trauma made me feel hope for him/them! In fact, there's so much to love about the show. The storytelling is such that there's a fine balance between the hope and hopelessness. One moment it makes you believe in the worst and the next, it makes you feel like a fool to not be able to see the apparent. It asks you to hope against the hope because that's what deep down Arisu's character does. Very few shows have the ability to pull the viewers inside and make them use their brains like they're the part of the games, this one successfully does that!

P.S. - I didn't have an account here last year, but saw this trending and dropped by now!

The male lead of Chinese drama goodbye my princess cheng yi, I think he should win the title of the most manipulative…
I totally AGREE! I kept scrolling down, hoping I would see his name! In fact, I felt that his character was toned down in the show because in the novel it was way worse!

This is just a simple show where the FL has an extreme level one-sided crush on ML! She is doing everything that she can, chasing him with all her might. She is also conscious and realistic, all too aware that in the end it might not work out and her feelings might not even be reciprocated. Her philosophy is simple and target set. She is betting everything and doesn't want to regret not trying to win her love. The ML is not a bad guy either. He doesn't love/like her and has been hurt before which makes him hyper-vigilant and distrustful, not wanting to open his heart again in fear of getting hurt. She has a mountainous task of not only make him fall for her, but to also get him out of his heartbreak! If you start watching this show, looking for logic and BIG themes, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. The whole premise from cross-dressing to contract marriage is fundamentally illogical. It is just another rom-com with FL's quest to make the ML who has been hurt in love before fall for her. Of course, there are the usual stock, supportive and over-enthusiastic parents who want nothing, but their kids married. This show clearly doesn't aspire nor promise great things, but a rom-com experience. It doesn't take itself too seriously and nor sets such expectations. Acting of ML and FL is good and their chemistry is cute (not explosive), side characters are not memorable, villains (not introduced yet, but might be annoying). Overall, a light drama. Nitpicking or finding faults in such a show is useless when all the visible flaws can be sometimes applied to entire genre. You can give it a try if you are bored and see if it fits you, otherwise drop it. However, it is definitely not the type of show where you might pull your hair and say that you want your time back when you finally decide to drop it. :)

Keeping everything aside, that proposal sequence was sooo wild! When she wrote that sequence in her book I was like, 'it's okay, that's just a book!' but, it's a miracle Dr. Ai didn't break his skull and was perfectly buried under the books! lol!!

Ur review makes me wanna try to go deeper than the fluff on the surface that i have just watched
Thank you! Tbh, watching this show, even I was surprised with the depth because c-dramas are notoriously cringey and unrealistic sometimes. I admit, I started watching it as just another fluffy-light drama which I would drop if it becomes too annoying! However, as I kept watching, I realised it was actually good! There wasn't a moment in this show where I had to shut down my brain to move forward because there was always plausible logic. And this is why I think it is one of those shows which gets 'better in retrospect' as only when you finish it, put all the pieces together, and reflect a little that you realise that it was actually 'a good show' and not like every other c-drama! :)

In my opinion this drama had a lot of potential. I felt there were many things that could've done better or more…
I totally understand from where you are coming from, especially ML. I think this is where this drama fails miserably. Their 'show not tell' approach twists our understanding of ML and FL. What's funny is that this show with their representation of ML has actually done something which hasn't been done before. Till now, in popular cinema mostly we have only seen extreme representation of autism. However, our ML is on autism spectrum which is never represented in mainstream because people who are not on exptremes can get by through extensive behavioral therapy. But of course, it takes immense amount of personal strength to live as if nothing is wrong with them. Mostly, they would come across as rude, stubborn or having anger management issues. All his little actions, even with the little kid in the end were not insensitive. He was coming from a place of teaching the kid how to first analyse his pain and injury and then, react accordingly. In fact, there is a book called 'The Kiss Quotient' in which the FL is on autism spectrum and just like Su Nian, you can't tell if she's on spectrum. In that book, the FL goes on to tell the main guy to never tell her his name, address or anything otherwise, she wouldn't be able to stop herself from stalking him. Su Nian is hyperaware of himself and even admits that he sounds like some "psycho". Also, the people who made the show never put flowery music when he forcibly kissed her, instead there was this creepy/sad music. His character throughout the show rises above his serious mental health issues to be better. At core, he's nice and trying hard despite his condition and traumatic childhood!

However, I hate that they just tell us that ML is on autism spectrum in the end. So many people get annoyed with his obsession for routines and need for security. Only if they had told everyone in the beginning rather the last few episodes, so many things could have been understood. Blaming the writers for using extreme mental illnesses and never telling enough about them or even exploring them. 😅

Ep 14: I wanted to physically remove that guy out of the frame...just when the things were going in the right direction, they introduce him! This is such an uncalled for, forced type of love triangle which is gonna definitely haunt Dr Ai! Like, he's read the book...for him to come to terms with it all is gonna take a lot of confidence, but I am gonna cheer for him! Plus, they make him his bestfriend/roommate! This puts him in such a bad position where he likes the same girl as his friend! wtf!

I have never cheered so much for the leads' happiness as I have in this one! I am glad that they showed us their after-marriage life and didn't rob us off the cutesy moments where they are still discovering new things about each other. And I think that's what makes this show even more authentic. They don't give us the typical, they got married and walked happily into the sunset ending. They show us a couple who can't always understand the other person's reactions but still tries to gives them space and most importantly, plays along with them, to give them the security they need. We see them genuinely trying to understand each other despite, the fact that both of them are fighting their own demons and mental health issues! PTSD, being on autism spectrum, abandonment trauma, visual impairment, long and repressed grief, delusion disorder type of serious mental health issues are not easy to live with. However, our leads try very hard to deal with it all and eventually, find happiness! ❀

I don't think I would move on from this show, but I don't really have to. Some characters and shows are just are soo good that they stay with you, etched in your memories. Sometimes it's not the famous actors, high production value, but the feelings that a show makes you feel in the moment which makes it great and memorable. This show is like poetry, sometimes you might understand it, other times you might need to read between the lines.❀

The ML's expressions are priceless every time the FL starts singing, plays piano or does anything musical. Lol! A musical genius and tone-deaf, the irony is hilarious! I literally felt his frustration through the screen when she sang in the class and later played the piano!! I am waiting for the day he tells her to just STOP!!

I am so happy that they didn't make us simply buy into 'love at first sight' trope and rather he goes on to ask her 'why' instead of immediately getting together when she confesses to him that she likes him. I think, her answer/confession on radio would be my favorite and the most memorable part of this drama! It was like how she, as a high school girl dreamt of being RJ so that one day, she's able to bring two people together who have some misunderstanding/miscommunication and now, she uses the same medium, in the same way to answer and they come together.

My absolute favourite line from her answer was "when you are in pain, you just silently put up with it. I think because of that, you think that I would have the same tolerance when you left me. Just because I couldn't answer the question, you just disappeared suddenly. You're just a jerk!!" It was simple, but her answer was more meaningful than many redundant reasons that might have sounded superficial or made up! Even though, she doesn't tell him the exact reasons, she says enough to convinve me that she really really likes him! Also, it does throw light on the fact how it is unfair to have same expectations from everyone as you have from your own self. Just because he was used to the pain, doesn't mean everyone else would have the same tolerance. He realises this later on.

One can find many flaws in this show, but the very subtle ways in which it says big and small meaningful things is what makes it a winner. And of course, chemistry of the leads is a cherry on the top!

The ferris wheel scene in ep 7 was soooo cute!! I could feel her second hand embarrassment across the screen and her subtle, not so subtle attempts to flirt with him all the time had me smiling like a fool! I started this show without any expectations, just out of sheer boredom, but I am gonna stay for their chemistry!!

https://www.erieri.com/salary/job/aeronautical-engineer/china/shanghaiThe average pay for an Aeronautical Engineer…
I echo your thoughts completely! In fact, by providing such a ridiculously unattainable contrast through QJJ’s profession, the writer somehow trivializes and masks Yu Tu’s aspiration for basic financial stability. It is only by presenting QJJ as a star that the issue of low salary can be masked by starting a parallel conversation about ‘the man should not be ashamed if the woman has more money’, which is very valid opinion and should be more acceptable. But I wonder if QJJ’s profession was something more conventional like that of a successful doctor (I am assuming that doctors are at least paid well there), would they still have been able to get away with this issue of low wages? Personally, the most problematic part of it is how he’s forced to not only come to terms with it, but also his so called ‘sacrifice/sticking to his dream’ is being romanticized, therefore, giving a wrong impression and pushing shallow propaganda. The right passage would have been to show how radically the system changes for/with the growing needs of the people because the system should favour the people who work for it, not ask them to compromise and scrape for basic things. The reality is that sentiments, patriotism doesn’t and won’t pay the bills, good welfare and compensation is what retains people. It’s not Yu Tu earning more than QJJ or equivalent, it is about Yu Tu earning like his counterparts in his profession across the world, without questioning and beating himself up. If it was a woman aerospace engineer, the argument would still be the same.

However, I think it’s too much to ask from this genre and TV show. It isn’t a show which is meant for reformation or can drive change at a system level or even aspires to do so. Wanting something which is out of the scope of the show would be unfair because it doesn’t promise anything like this. It’s already doing well, starting conversations about valid problems. Also, censorship works in insidious ways, if they don’t push the propaganda, they might get into trouble.
