Not what I expected, but I loved it

I went into this show knowing nothing about it other than having seen some promo photos of the two leads. It's been a while since I've watched a female-centric drama, and overall they're not usually my thing, but I love the heck out of this one.

Both actresses are adorable, well written and well developed. The storyline has a few interesting twists, but nothing really stays unresolved for too long. My absolute favourite thing about the whole show is Detective Jiang, who clearly knows what's going on, but can't prove it. And the women know that he knows, and just continue to wind him up. It makes for a really fun almost!friendship between them and him. I hated Zhou Heng with all of my heart, but I'm pretty sure I was supposed to.

From what I've read, there was originally a simple happy ending for the two leads, but this got changed when a season two was agreed. The second half of the last episode is clearly a set-up for season two - if you want to just accept the happy ever after, stop after the first half of that episode.

I don't hate the ending at all - in fact I'm really intrigued by it, and am anticipating a lot of good things from season two (if it ever happens).

A typical disaster movie (but that's not a bad thing!)

I was lucky enough to see this at an actual cinema here in the UK, and I'm glad I did.

It had everything you expect from a disaster movie, including grand heroic gestures, last-minute relationship reconciliations, and a rousing speech to convince a group of people to do the right thing. It also had some great acting from Zhu Yilong (although that was also to be expected) and just enough actual peril to keep me questioning whether he would survive or not.

Some of the plot aspects were a little formulaic, but that's pretty much the genre. Not a lot of re-watch value once you know how it's going to end though.

Overall, it was a fun watch and was great to be able to see a Chinese movie on the big screen.

Less romance, more harassment

This isn't a romance story. It's harassment and bullying wrapped that is pretending to be 'flirting'. The story is terrible, rushed, and makes no actual sense. The characters are two-dimensional, with no actual motives for anything they do. There is a sub-plot around a kidnapping that is seemingly ignored by the main lead so he can flirt/insult the female lead a little more, and romances seem to happen out of nowhere.

I watched this purely for Xie Binbin, who does very well with what he's given, but even he can't save this film.
