It's not her letting go of him but the other way around. Throughout the drama & novel LBY has been pushing CSS…
I'm guessing that they'll be separated for not more than 2 episodes (51 and 52?) and that the 2nd episode will end with LBY meeting CSS again. I'm actually looking forward to the part where they find their way back to each other.

I agree. That's why I'm puzzled why some people blame CSS for the separation. LBY hurt her really bad by his betrayal. He was the one at fault. He was the one who gave up and decided to just love her from afar.
Yes, CSS cancelled the engagement, but that didn't stop him before. And she didn't do it because she didn't love him anymore -- she was heartbroken!
Others would have sought forgiveness not just by words but also by action, repeatedly, however long it took. But LBY chose to be a noble idiot for five freaking years! The old LBY would have broken every law to get her back.
And finally, when he changed his mind, it didn't even take a year for CSS to accept him again.
My interpretation was she was upset with LBY over the betrayal, which caused her to be spiteful and she acted…
If you recall, it was LY who pursued CSS, and LBY basically "forced' her to marry him. YS, who kept her company for 5 years, "volunteered" to marry her. No manipulation involved. In fact, in the novel, CSS proposed to 2 other princes who declined 😆 But I am looking forward to LBY begging CSS to take him back. It's not that the love wasn't there anymore. Of course, she still loved him! But CSS must allow her heart to trust him again.

LBY was aware of and regretted the pain he inflicted on CSS. And CSS does not forgive easily. But it didn't mean she broke up with him out of spite. Sometimes, when the pain is too great, you just need to get away as far as possible from the person who caused it.
If I remember the novel correctly, the emperor (?) mentioned LBY could have come back anytime during the 5 year separation and wooed her but he chose not to.
CSS only decided to get engaged again (after 5 years!) because it was one of the empress's last wishes.
So LBY was lucky that he came back before CSS married YS. Otherwise, CSS would have decided to be a good wife to YS (who, like LBY and Ayao, loved her for who she was) and they would have been happy. Just like 3rd aunt and uncle.
A thought that came to me, and I wanted to share: Many of commenters expressed their displeasure and disappointment…
In ep 40, LBY sought CSS's advice on revenge. CSS replied to weigh which one was more important (revenge or the feelings of the person he loved). CSS chose to exact revenge after the banquet which meant to CSS, the empress is more important. On the other hand, LBY demonstrated that he was more obsessed with revenge. Based on the teasers, he'd kept lying to her until the eve of their wedding. Personally, I would definitely sympathize with CSS. LBY would have to earn back her trust even if they still loved each other.
this ep is where CSS wears the red clothing and i think Lby was taking his revenge since he was brutally killing…
They were being pursued because LBY committed a crime - unlawful use of the army to massacre the Ling clan. He did not want CSS (who was willing to escape with him) implicated and hurt. In the novel, he pushed her off the horse.
After CSS and 3rd prince proved LBYs real identity, LBY was rescued.
LBY (who was unaware CSS was secretly listening) confirmed in front of the emperor and empress that he had chosen revenge over CSS. This prompted the very hurt CSS to break off their engagement.
LBY was sent to the borders to fight.
I guess these events will happen in episode 48 and 49.
I have read the novel via Google translate. And based on the teasers, CSS and LBY still have to beat one final boss (and one mini boss) after the revenge arc. These should take up 2-3 episodes. I'm hoping the last episode will feature the wedding.
Loving her (cyn-lynn blogspot) mini recaps and review. Especially notable is her analysis of the lines that LBY says.

Then we also see him unable to do the same 🙄
