For some people status and money is what they chase not knowing that neither will ever bring them happiness. That's Yake's cross to bear. The contrast with Tingyun is stark. Her life too was about status and money but she's realised that there are more important things to life. Her letter to her mother in ep 10 shows how much she has grown and as a parent of a teenaged daughter about to leave home for uni, is especially poignant and a wish that she too understands the same.
I think this year I have enjoyed a few historical dramas and this one will be on that list of the dramas I enjoyed…
It's the first year where I have bothered to watch so many dramas whilst they are being released. This is the 4th whereas in previous years I might follow 1/2 at most at release. Of the ones I have followed daily, I'd still rate Pursuit of Jade more highly for the 1st 12 episodes though. PoJ does drop off a little towards the 2nd half for me. Blossoms of Power was a better watch through the whole 36+ episodes and I gave up on Key to the Phoenix Heart after 12 episodes even if I started off watching it daily.
This one though I am hoping is good all the way to the end. So far though, it's been a very good watch and I wish I could shake Zhao Ling and tell him that her actions speak louder than words.
