Completed tonight. UNSETTLED CASE is a very good addition to Youku’s White Night dramas. That being said I think I enjoyed the first case (Jewelry Store Robbery) better than the second case (Bian Inn Robbery and Murder). Don’t get me wrong. They were both interesting but in the first case Yue Yun Pen (who played the reporter ) really was outstanding.
Finished tonight. Another very good addition to iQIYI’s Suspense Theater dramas. The subject matter in the past reminded me of the 2025 Tencent X Theater drama LIGHT OF DAWN.

@roddib, somehow I missed iQIYI’s INSEPARABLE in June. With the last 3 episodes of Youku’s UNSETTLED CASE blocked off with Express status I will jump into this drama. Like, @bubble your imprimatur (or kabosh lol) to a crime drama is a good indication about quality.
Time reference. Late 1995. In episode 14 during the Bian Inn murder investigation reference was made to the recent Jewelry Store robbery and murder. Both incidents occurred close together time wise.

I think the first case (JewelryStore) covered by episodes 1-9 was well done. Interesting to see how media changed over the course of the case. After a hiatus I am looking forward to the second case.

One area of Johan’s story that was hinted at but not made explicit was that he probably was a Christian believer. Catholic christian. Some of the evidence or clues: 1. We first meet Johan in a Catholic Church sitting/kneeling in a confessional. He knew where the priest sits hearing confessions and where the penitent kneels. 2. He seems to always have a rosary around his neck under his shirt. The Catholic rosary is a devotion to Mary. 3. At the cemetery visiting the grave of Ryu’s uncle he crosses himself as a Catholic would. 4. Not 100 percent sure but I think I could see a small crucifix on the table next to his bed jn the shared house in Japan. One of the aspects of love recognized in Catholic theology (besides eros and agape) is ‘Philia’ which is according to an AI query: “The deep, affectionate love of friendship. Unlike agape (selfless, sacrificial divine love) or eros (romantic desire), philia is a mutual bond based on shared values, mutual respect, and companionship among equals.
By the end if the story for me that describes the feelings Ryu and Johan felt for each other.

TAGUSARI BROS. is an unusual psychological crime drama. I gave it 9 stars mainly for the wonderful performances by the actors who played the damaged brothers. I am not a fan of open endings where presumably there will not be a second season.
I loved the first episode of DESCENDING STORIES. I am looking forward to entering the world of rakugo.
