I know! I hope it’s posted tomorrow. It’s making me nuts, they had me so trained on the schedule.

I am also ruined by this show. I would love to have a director’s commentary someday or at least access to an English translation of the novel. I want to know Zelia’s thoughts on everything.

Coming back to comment after crashing out over episode 13. This show makes me feel things very strongly which is the highest form of art. I really should learn to read Chinese so I can read the creator’s novel and anything else she writes, as I feel she is a genius whose values align with my own.

Yes! You articulated my feelings so perfectly. If I wanted to be emotionally damaged by art I would read Tolstoy or Victor Hugo again. The world is full of suffering, this genre is a respite from reality. This just felt like cruelty in the name of spirituality and my god, I am so done with it. I know it’s well made but man, this was such a rug pull.

A sadist is the word that came to my mind as well. I don’t think it was intentional but it feels like torture. I didn’t need to learn a lesson on the futility of life from something that had brought me joy up until this episode. I can look around the world to see suffering, I don’t need it in art that should be for comfort.
