They can take a lot from the novel if they like the setting and scenes. They already bought the copyright with specific instructions that they can use them and add some scenes to it if they wish. Only thing is the guidelines written in their contract as to how much they can take from the novel is still unknown. But I think there was no need to buy the novel copyright if they weren't using maximum scenes and names from the novel. And they already gave credits to the novel during title announcement.
