the all ten episode is 10/10 but the last 20 minutes is 1000000I cried so hard 🥺😭😭😭 he was left alone
It also matches their real life as actors. Legendary actor Choi Bool Am is one of four main actors of the original. The other three actors passed away 10-20 years ago.

So, yeah, both fictional and real life, “he was left alone”.

I had to go to the cast list and check the names again as old Young Han was calling the names on the graves lol.…
Yep, those were also tributes to the original actors who passed away 10-20 years ago.

It's why the last episode is very touching, especially when the two “former criminals” ate with and cried when they met the detective.

That was a two-fold scene.
First: The story of course. A long time passed.
Second: Tribute. The actors for the old version of the two criminals in this 1958 storyline are the same actors in the original 1971 show.

That scene where they had a reunion and they cried, was also a reminiscing of their huge success when they did the original 1971 show that took 800+ episodes. Yep, 800+ episodes, that was how huge of a success it was.

Thus, imagine, reaching their age right now, 2024 but without the other actors they've been with during their 800 episode stint. Even if they weren't acting, it is indeed something to cry for. They've been together that long, and they were given a chance to reprise their roles even for s short while.

Then the graveyard scene. I can't even imagine legendary actor Choi Bool Am separating himself as an actor from his original character Detective Park, when the three other main actors who he was with in the original story, are no longer with us for 10-20 years now.

It's so hard to separate your character from real life when the fictional characters matches the real life. And again, imagine 800+ episodes. All four of them have been together for 800+ episodes.

That last episode was the perfect tribute. In fact, the whole series is a tribute to them all.

Any guesses. Where did the evil sister get all the money to rent an apartment and do an entire make over?
From the director. :p

On serious note. No idea. When it come to her, anything is possible. She is crazy. ^_^

Title Su Ji & U Ri
Or some trauma. In ep 38 there is a flashback of someone trying to feed her a rice ball. It's at 27:43.
It is definitely because of a traumatic experience.

1. As a little, running outside looking for her mother thinking she abandoned you, can be a traumatic experience.

Thus, all good memories about her mother were blocked by her brain in an act of self-preservation. Otherwise, she wouldn't survive the devastation of her new reality.

This includes her mother feeding her her favourite food. That good memory associated with that particular rice cake, with a unique flavour that only her mother makes, turned into a nightmare.

Since recently her memories are starting to resurface, she has no idea how to react and what to do with those memories. And since those good memories turned into nightmares, she is consciously avoiding those memories instead of looking into those deeper.

So, yes, trauma.

2. Food allergy is possible as well.

Although, at least as of E39, her memories of her mother feeding her that particular food points that it was not an allergy. They implied that it was her mother's signature rice cake, and they both love eating it together.

It was their happy moment. Their bonding moment. The most precious. Those moments were when all their hormones were in maximum production, thus, they created a very strong bond.

Unfortunately, due to No.1 reason stated above, those memories turned into a nightmare. Her hormones are no longer producing whenever she remembers anything related to her mother, especially their “just the two of us” moments.

Not dismissing food allergy, it's still possible, but so far, the possibility seems to be very low.

3. Self-induced trauma

There are people who are capable of self-induced trauma. They can trigger their brain's self-preservation mode, thus, allowing them to block memories as traumatic.

Although, with the way she's reacting to these “new” memories (‘new’ as far as her adult self is concerned), it doesn't appear to be a self-induced trauma. Also, as a kid, she wouldn't have any control or know-how how to do it.

So, it more likely is a natural defense mechanism by her brain. Her extreme distress when she was a little kid prompted her brain to go self-preservation mode.

This was a tribute to the original show and actors.* Detective/Inspector Park was played by Choi Bool Am in the…
I hope they release a sequel.

They can do it multiple ways:
1. Another prequel set before the original “Chief Detective 1971”.
2. Remake the 1971 original.
3. A sequel of 1971, set sometime later.
4. A modern 2023/2024 version. Continue the story line of the present time. This time, focusing on Park's descendants, and telling us the other case stories through his grandson.

If they'll choose to do a 2023/2024 version next, then those past case stories can become the 3rd sequel/prequel. For example, it will tell the story of Park's son. Was he a detective as well? How much did he adore his father, the cow-thief detective? What were his achievements?

Doing that way will fill in the gap as to how original Park's grandson became a detective, which is his father (or son of original Park).

There are plenty of ways they can go about this. And I hope they will.

why are people surprised by the number of episodes? lol did yall not see that it was a weekly drama that aired…
Because they are late Gen Z and Gen Alpha. They are too young. Also, they only know modern K-drama, they probably don't even watch their own local shows, or any Western and Latin American shows, where there are multiple seasons (or 1 season that never ends). Probably they don't even watch anime. Then again, anime shows are short these days as well.

The production team is very strict.

But it is understandable because they the prizes at stake are expensive. It probably was hard to convince their finance to get buy those prizes. We're assuming they bought it since it is SOP to only mention the brand if it was sponsored.

So, in the end, even though it feels so sad, and sometimes annoying that they are very strict, that's the one it should be.

That said, the survival of this show is going to be 50-50. In some cases, instead of bringing happiness, it became sad.

Here are my suggestions:
1. The hosts should explain that the prizes are only a bonus. So whatever happens, it's just a bonus. The focus is about bringing them happiness during their break time.
2. They should include those scenes in each visit, as it will help the audience to set proper expectations as well.

A good example of that was the Colonel. He understood that it the prizes were only a bonus.

Currently, from E01 to E04, the editing made it appear that happiness is through the prizes, and without it, it is all sad, and a failure.

They need to reframe each visit.

No visit is a failure, because it is not about the prizes, it is about the happiness the celebrities brought with them. It is about the interaction of celebrities with ordinary people. The prizes are simply bonuses, nothing more, nothing less.

By reframing it (which includes the editing of scenes), it sets the proper expectation for the ordinary people they visit, as well as the audience watching. It also justifies the super strictness of the production team.

Well, since they're done filming… it's too late. But, if they plan on making S02, I hope they get to read this feedback so they can make the show even better.

LOL. They can even add a wildcard, the people they visit can use some wildcard option. But on that one, I leave it to them to think. (If they'll pay me for ideas, then I'll share some. Hahahaha.)

Gahhh seriously, why translate 'kimchi' as 'cheese'?!? Shout out to Netflix translators: People are not idiots!
Probably a newbie translator. S/he still doesn't know when to translate because it's culturally understandable to do so, and when not to because it's well-known already (or at least easily understood).

Or, maybe, their manager is the one who doesn't understand. Hahahaha.

Person Lee Bom So Ri
They should give movies and main roles in TV.

Or, did she choose to only have TV shows and support roles? There are actors who prefer it that way for many reasons.

She's good and she has the facial expressions who can fit in a main role as well as a movie.

They always make the leads fight at first. One day a writer will shock us all and have the leads fall in love…
Hahahaha. True. Eventually they'll get tired of the trope, they'll reverse it.

There is. They're following standard plot line. You'll notice the pattern if you look at it as a weekly theme (1-5; 6-10; and so on).
