Overrated? mafia game: confused edition
From my point of view, and comparing it to other similar movies and series, Night has come is overrated and doesn't deserve more than an overall 5.I will avoid spoiling the series as much a possible, but some things might slip.
The story: a story generated by an AI indeed.. the deaths are pure fantasy, so unrealistic I was amazed by the first episodes. I mean, hypnosis would be a good assumption for the behavior, but the brutality is a clear giveaway that something else is happening. Also, the clues left all around by the host are totally ignored and the main character is dismissing the nightmares, the hallucinations, the signs... she is clearly not the brightest fish in the pond, even though the writers tried to show her as such. Another amazing thing is the fact that in the beginning some characters are shown playing mafia, but later nobody knows the rules of the game and they just base everything on how much they dislike a person? Some characters survive the night based on illogical arguments and by the end rules are crumbling.
The ending, I have to admit that the matrix wouldn't have predicted that.. it doesn't make sense and it's also more than questionable. If the parents are millionaires (otherwise the setup is not possible), couldn't the girl fix her problems easily? I'm quite sure if they could do the 'magic' at the end, they could press a delete when everything happened.. seems more plausible that the whole backstory! And it was a 10 minute backstory where nothing is really cleared up.
The characters: Yoon Seo is gullible and hopes to save the day but makes all the wrong choices possible, discussing things with the others are optional, but is good at forensics and likes taking pictures of the dead... ? Jun Hee is just the male version of the main and doesn't get the 'magical powers' but gets to rewind in the pool and people still think it's not weird, strange or suspicious! The game has a doctor, that apparently lags and doesn't do his job until it's a plot point - I forgot the role existed until that point, and also a police that is non existent for most of the series and is useful because the mafia has internal problems. Kyung Jun and So Mi are the few characters with a personality and goal but the writers managed to make them predictable and repetitive. Jung Won is usually in the background or tending to Yoon Seo, even though you can guess why she acts in a certain way but is always without a doubt. The other characters are there so they have someone to play the game with, it gave me the feeling they didn't want more than 10 characters for the plot but just had to go with it. There is no backstory for anyone even though the plot revolves around the class as a whole! It's not as in the Werewolf game movies where they're just shoved there and wished good luck, theoretically they have a purpose.
Music is fine, but I don't quite remember it. Sounds are very obvious at times and give the impression they're controlled through auditory hallucination.
I don't think it's rewatchable.. once is enough. But if they do decide on a second season that resolves the issues it ended with, I would give it a go.
What did I like about it? Not much, but the pacing is decent, the outfits are ok, the location is ok and the special effects are good. Also the premise is good, but the execution and development is lacking. It's like it glitched in the middle or something.
If you like mystery series and blood, try it, but don't expect to much logic to be involved.
