its not that they dont /want/ to show the romances, its that they cant. very strict censorship

you should give pre 2016 bls and queers movies a try. and recently, loads of cbls (produced outside china, and hence are not required to be censored) have come out with explicit romances

finally, a media does not become "less" queer just because there was no kissing in it, yanno. historically, we've had to rely on subtext because censorship has only loosened in the past few decades across the globe
