Thanks, I found the subtitles − it does say “30”. Looks like the translation we had was mistaken. In any case, a 7–8 year age gap really isn’t that big between fully grown adults at that stage of life.

But the characters’ exact ages are not officially stated anywhere you would expect them to be — not on the JTBC website, not in press releases, and not on the wiki; I specifically checked. So someone may have either made up those mysterious “drama documents” or simply misunderstood something, because nothing like that is actually published anywhere.
What is clearly stated in the drama itself are the age ranges: she is over 35, and he is over 40.
I genuinely can’t understand what “huge age gap” people are talking about.
How are they labeled in the emotion study? “A woman over 35 with psychological issues” and “an unemployed man over 40.”
That means she’s at least 36, otherwise they would’ve simply written “35-year-old woman.”
And he can’t be older than 42. How long has he been drifting around without debuting after university? About 20 years. At what age do people normally graduate from university? Around 21–22. So he’s 42 at most.
So we’re talking about 36 and 42 — the maximum possible gap is six years, and it could easily be smaller if she’s, say, 37 rather than 36, and he’s 41 rather than 42. That’s a completely normal age difference. Where exactly are people seeing an “old man” and a “young girl” here?

I watched this film a long time ago, and I don’t remember them going into this character’s backstory. But I do clearly remember that he was a successful businessman, and a lot of that success came from his talent for skillfully breaking conventional stereotypes. And, well, that’s exactly what he brought into his relationships with people too.
Dong Man is one of the most repulsive, unlikable characters whom I have nevertheless adored, in all my film-watching…
Yes, there is something similar. He was incredibly annoying, rude, tactless − the kind of person who disregarded all the foundations that held that family together, the very family he became a part of. But in the end, I found myself crying along with them as they all walked that final lap together.
