until now i was very neutral about this drama and it seemed like one of those i watch as a mean to pass the time but this ep finally moved me!! now i'm rooting for the main couple and super excited for the next eps

mbc said the monarchy still exists in this timeline because it's based in a what if scenario where the son of king jeonjo and royal consort uibin (portrayed in the mbc drama the red sleeve) lived to ascend the throne and there was also no japanese colonial period nor korean war

i don't think he wants to be king because that would mean he's planning to usurp his nephew's throne, he's just a very unhappy and lonely person who's tired of being forced tone down his personality and be reclusive because everyone sees him as a threat first to his older brother (who actually thought of him as a better fit to the throne) and now to his nephew.

the trailer shows a child on the throne so apparently the monarchy is going through a period of regency. the king is his 8 year old nephew and that's why the queen dowager (seungyeon's character) wants lee wan to stay invisible so he won't overshadow her son
