The Most Genuinely Honest Love Story Between Two Boys

I'll keep this short and sweet.

I rated this show 10/10 because the acting and the chemistry between the two MCs was out of this world.

I am the type of person who's aware when actors are acting on screen and it often throws me out of the story. But with Pat and Prat, I was so immersed in their story that I believed they are real and actually love each other.

The acting and the humour were incredible.

The story is very well-written. I saw the intelligence in the script and the plot.

We also got a GL side story!

Overall, Bad Buddy had incredible pacing, a great script, and an amazingly believable love story between two talented actors that delivered it perfectly.

Rewatchable!!

Heartwarming And Profound

This is my first Japanese BL show. Recently I've watched a few Korean BL shows and got used to their humour and acting and brutal honesty. I knew that a Japanese show would be different. Here, we got a lot of unsaid things and things said through saying other things, as is more typical in Japan. I adored the use of language. I don't speak Korean well, so I could not appreciate the language aspect of Korean dramas, but I do speak Japanese and I adored every word in this show. I adored how the script was delivered, the intensity of words that were said, and the nuance of all the words that were left out.

I absolutely adored the message of this show: no age is too old as long as you don't give up on yourself and your happiness. I'm at a very precarious point in my own life and I needed to see this show. The romance part as well was very sweet and gentle and genuine. I can honestly say that watching this show made my day.

Will 100/10 rewatch!

A Touching Love Story With Incredible Depth

As with every Korean BL drama, the summary seems lighthearted, but the production of the story makes it deep and different from anything you're ever seen before.

I cannot emphasize enough how much this drama made me feel. The best part was definitely the main lead who played the famous actor. His character was so well done and profound and traumatized and funny and quirky in a good way. I love this character the most.

Next, we have the love interest whose characterization is spot on. Truly, wonderful scriptwriting right there.

Then again, the script is always on point with these mini Korean BL dramas. Truly incredible. Even the supporting actors were all people of their own, so they were alive and realistic. I am awed to the bone.

Will definitely rewatch this show.

Great Story With Unique Characters

I binge-watched this mini BL drama and loved it. It felt like watching a short film.

I loved how the two characters met. It was fresh and quirky. I adored the characterization of both the characters, but especially Yuki. I adored how intimacy was portrayed -- especially when Yuki did not enjoy kissing and then admitted as to why. I liked their communication and I felt they really understood each other. Seeing them go through so many years together really made me more interested in their relationship and dynamic. Mild spoiler ahead, but when Yuki admitted to wanting to go back to school for scriptwriting and when Akira supported him wholeheartedly although he might not have chosen that path for Yuki, this moment was GOLD. I love the unquestioning support the two gave each other. This romance story was simply beautiful.

Wondeful Execution Of Perhaps Unnecessary Angst

I get it, okay? I get Han Ji Woo's insecurities, loneliness, and why he ran away.

But.

It's been a freaking year since he left. Waiting all that time for Kang Seo Joon to come to him is too long, is it not? What was the sense in that?

But in any case, he waited. What I don't understand is why he kept rejecting Kang Seo Joon for so long once his lover found him. And in the end, when Han Ji Woo realizes his mistake, he dares tell Kang Seo Joon that he would not chase him as much as he had been chased. Seriously? I understand he had insecurities still, but for someone you love...surely...you could learn to try...It would be an amazing character development.

Overall, I felt Han Ji Woo did not get to the type of realization he should have by the end of the show. He should have realized that he hurt his lover and that his insecurities were just that -- insecurities, not realities. He should have apologized more, begged more, and got to a point of a more enlightened realization.

I felt there was no real climax to the story, or at least not the type of resolution I wished to see.

Han Ji Woo really hurt Kang Seo Joon but he did not heal the rift between them the way he should have. In the end, Kang Seo Joon loved more than Han Ji Woo, no? I don't like to think this, but as much as I adore this show, Han Ji Woo was simply too passive...

But I like him learning to express his emotions more. That part's good. But it rubbed me the wrong way when he said he disliked when Kang Seo Joon talked with others and had friends?! Seriously? That's a red flag!

Realistic Acting With Amazing Script And Story

This became my favourite as soon as I binge-watched it just now.

LIKES:
1. Amazing acting (which Korean shows almost always deliver tbh)
2. Chemistry between the two MCs was incredible!
3. Every character felt three-dimensional
4. The story and the script were impeccably written. Engaging, to the point, bittersweet, smart.
5. Production quality

DISLIKES:
1. Too short!

I seriously cannot emphasize enough how much I liked this show. The love story felt so realistic and organic. The family dynamic of the main character was depicted well. Also, the traumas of the main character were also developed well and came out in an amazing story and acting.

Boring And Badly Executed

The show started out okay, but soon turned for the worse.

The premise of the show -- a medical examiner and the victim's boyfriend are searching for who killed the woman -- seemed interesting. However, there are so many illogical decisions and irrational character actions in this show that by the 4th episode, I had to drop the whole thing because it was too annoying.

The biggest negative, though, was the romance between the two men.

The "romance" between the two main characters felt so out of place and forced. The whole tone of the show was dark, but then the two would have a conversation and A) The conversation did not revolve around the Most Immediate Thing That Needs To Be Discussed, instead talking about things that should be "romantic" or "flirty", and B) These flirty conversations did not belong where they were placed, and they disrupted the whole tone of the murder mystery and crime genre in the show. The flirty moments felt so out-of-place and forced.

Another thing was that the acting was pretty average and I felt no chemistry between the two main characters.

Besides this, the mystery element was illogical and badly written and I could not get into it at all.

Therefore, I am dropping this show and moving on to something better.

*No Chemistry (Or Kissing) Between The Main Characters!*

If you want a smart BL drama with true connection, an interesting storyline and decent acting, this is not it.

I wasn't planning on writing a review, but seeing as this tv show is so popular, I must ward off all of you who look for quality content because if you watch A Tale Of A Thousand Stars, you'll get super disappointed.

This is what's wrong with it:

1. The storyline had a good premise, but bad execution. The whole story was written badly, nonsensically, with minimal effort.
2. The script was awkward, empty, shallow, and cheap. No emotional depth, no feeling, no honesty or truth. It read like fanfic written by a 15-year-old.
3. There is no chemistry between the two MCs. This is my biggest problem. The character named The Chief was A. a bad actor, and B. seemed like he wanted to get as far away from Tian as possible. There were no intimate moments, no touches that felt honest, no yearning that rang genuinely, and NOTHING between the two MCs that I could appreciate.
(4. This is subjective, but The Chief was truly dislikeable and he reminded me of my ex.)

In any case, I am baffled at the support this tv show is getting. I would not categorize it as a BL at all. And if it's not a BL, then what is it? A waste of time!

Empty, Emotionless, Personality-Less Love Interest

The Love Interest guy is simply an empty shell with no soul inside. The actor of that Love Interest is so so so bad.

The Protagonist is amazing. I really saw emotions and reactions within him. However, this brought contrast of acting between the two leads to an even more obvious point. It presented how realistic and genuine Protagonist seems and how empty and emotionless the Love Interest seems.

Also, I think the problem is also that Love Interest has bad lines and zero personality, so he can't express himself fully, or at all.

In any case, I've watched a few amazing BL dramas recently and I have no patience for this low-quality production of cheap emotion and bad acting.

I think my main problem is really in the way the Love Interest is portrayed. I'd honestly just want to stay for Team and Win...
