Things I like about this show: The opening/closing titles are pretty, the costumes are amazing, the aesthetics are very warm and lovely, Chinese opera, Bai Lu, the male lead is a sweet bunny (just so sweet), the storytelling style is very quirky and fun.

Thank you for this explanation. It's always nice to know the historical, cultural, and philosophical context of things. I personally prefer the Romantic notions of individualism so this level of self-sacrifice always upsets me, even though we have it in my culture as well. I get it when it's for the greater good or the betterment of huge groups of people but one on one? Which girl deserved to live? Who are we to choose, you know? Who can decide which individual deserves to survive and who doesn't? That's what got to me. I have seen similar dramatic devotions in other shows too but I really felt like this one just hit harder. It was just too much. It's really difficult to grasp from a modern perspective but I suppose it made sense for the character. You are definitely right as well. Yes! I really enjoy Bai Yu's acting. He just makes my heart hurt so good and he just knocked it out of the park in The Long Night. That show was amazing and I cried so much during the last episode, all because of his amazing performance. I haven't watched Guardian yet, I've just seen a little bit to know I like his acting there too. I try to follow his shows if I can. (And yeah, Yang Mi is pretty good too. I like her acting style.)

I don't think a huge company investing in an endeavor that can potentially earn them millions is somehow a favor done for fans that fans should be grateful for. It's a business. It's not a charity.

I don't think that's a real thing. We've heard a lot of rumors about shows this past year and most of the time these things are all speculation or wishful thinking. I only believe what I see and what I can see is that they are filming. Wearing plastic bags. It's incredibly wasteful of money and resources to "test" on site. Only a very irresponsible production would do something like this. But it is what it is. If the final show is good I'll watch and if it's not I won't watch and it's literally such a non-issue for every other human on earth. Like whether I am happy or angry or sad or dissatisfied, it's really a personal journey for me and that adaptation. Right now, I am disappointed with everything I can see. Later, it might be different but I do keep a mean grudge so I'll have to wait and see how things go.
