They did communicate with each other but their conflict and misunderstanding never got resolved because they both failed to understand each other point of view this is why they sealed their powers and made a deal to be mortals to experience mortal suffering, if i remember correctly it was in ep 16. HRY even said that BJS can only communicate with her again if he finally understand mortal suffering.
