Just completed watching Pursuit of Jade for the very first time in 4 days already. This drama had incredible start…
Wow, you really followed through to the end—I’ve been waiting for your review, and it’s pretty fair and on-point. If you want a better script experience, I’d recommend The Prisoner of Beauty

You might come across behind-the-scenes clips or livestream cuts, but actual scenes from the drama? Impossible to post. Upload one, it gets taken down immediately—the fans are completely burnt out from fighting this battle. I know this bitter struggle all too well.

Mainland BL dramas get heavily shadowbanned—unless you're already a fan, you basically can't come across them at all. Trending hashtags get removed, and fans are occasionally left completely homeless. There's a really bizarre double standard: this only applies to mainland productions. Thai, Korean, and Japanese BLs sail through completely unchecked—I can see them on my feed anytime. That's exactly why Thai and Korean BLs are so massively popular in mainland China, while locally produced BL dramimportantly drop without a sound.

Anyone knows how this series is doing in China?
All BL dramas funded by mainland investors will basically have to rely on livestreaming to blow up from now on. Because no matter the platform—Weibo, Douyin, Xiaohongshu—you simply can't find clips or fan edits of these shows. Even the very few lucky enough to slip through the review process get forcibly taken down within a very short time. This makes it impossible for these dramas to spread their hype; the restrictions are airtight. Livestreaming is the only way to build momentum. Deep In back in the day was pretty much the same situation—it was only through the two leads' frequent livestreams that the heat was eventually driven up.

Anyone knows how this series is doing in China?
After airing two episodes, the drama completely failed to make a splash—barely anyone even knew it had premiered. But later, thanks to the cast's livestreams—which were just too hilarious and full of great moments—combined with their interactions with fans, it slowly started gaining traction. The livestreams drew more viewers to actually go watch the show, and now it's picking up some buzz. When they first started streaming, there were only about 3,000 viewers; lately it's gone past 10,000. That said, because our local streaming platform has strict moderation, if two people get too close to each other or have overly physical contact, the stream often gets forcibly cut off after a while and the account receives a warning. But those are just minor issues.
