A completely different drama

Firstly, I would like to do a very quick recap; As it's probably already known, the story is revolving around a love triangle between two best friends (Sun oh and Hye young) and their classmate, Kim Jo jo.

The first season started off well with a very interesting and different kind of concept, that showed a very quick development of its own story between the two mains (Sun oh and Jo jo), and later with Hye young trying to win over the heart of a hopelessness girl.

With the arrival of the second season though Love Alarm felt like a completely different drama where, most of the time, had an unclear and confusing aspect. Its turning point happened when the screenwriter swiftly put aside Sun oh’s leading role, along with his feelings towards Jo jo, which felt like a regrettable decision that not only ruined the concept of the story but also the viewer’s patience.

With every chance Sun oh is shown on screen, it feels like the viewer is battling with him to understand all those upsetting feelings that are coming forth and with him not receiving any proper answers to his questions, there is no development around his character which leads to the thing I mentioned earlier – putting aside his leading role – and making him look like a clingy person that “begged” to be loved back.

The ending of the story becomes clear by episode 4 as you are left there – in front of the screen – asking yourself “where did this come from”. By the time you realize that there is no turning back to the decision-making, the screenwriter decides to finish this off by showing us how unnecessary the love triangle and its story was, from the beginning.

As it is probably already known, stories that include love triangles never end up in a good way and this drama here proved that it is no exception. The most frustrating part though is how it manages to turn a diverse story into a weak one that makes the viewer regret to even spent those 6 hours of their time while hoping that it would have followed a similar pace to the 1st season without making these last-minute "changes".
