You'll probably hate it, but then you'll love it!

The show itself is based on an existing Thai novel of the same name that has been, to an extent, successfully adapted for TV. Like the summary suggests, the story starts with love and affection, slowly turns into obsession. and hate BUT that is only the first 4-5 episodes. I know, a lot of the viewers would be straight up frustrated with Paeng (our FL) and would probably wish to drop it. But I implore you to atleast reach till episode 6 before you make a decision. It really does get better. There's a reason for everything and once everything is out in the open, everything will make so much more sense. That's way too many everything's in one line lol

The Story ¯\_(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)_/¯
It is not your typical hate turns to love story. It has two people with their own emotional baggage, trying to navigate this world, one day at a time. And it's equal parts beautiful and frustrating to watch as these two absolutely lovable but dense dodo's go about trying to figure out their feelings for each other. The FL has actual reasons behind her actions and is not just a spoiled brat. I'll not say much so as not to give away. But the summary is mostly for the first few episodes. There's so much more to it and it's all worth the watch.

The Characters ¯\_(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)_/¯
There so much to unwrap, especially with Paeng. A scared and lost teenager is dropped into a completely unfamiliar environment. She has a lot of emotional baggage of her own and the people around her don't help much to elevate it. She then goes through a beautiful journey in which we see her love to the point of obsession, fall from grace but then she picks up the pieces of her life and slowly rebuilds them back again and comes out stronger. The character development of Paeng is very much visible and you go from hating to loving the girl. And please, believe in our girl! She makes some very sketchy choices that might raise you heckles but power through! It really all works out in the end. Plus, Kao has done a beautiful job in bringing out the intricacies of Paeng too.

I absolutely love to hate Arthit (our ML). Watching his character's development is like watching Sisyphus, he would constantly climb uphill only to then roll back down and start all over again. But Mark Prin manages to make us fall in love with him anyways. His eyes speak. Like literally. He wouldn't need to say a word and you'll know exactly what he's trying to say. And for once, the ML has an actual, legit reason to hate the FL and not some arbitrary 'I don't like her so I'll bully her' kind of thing. And he does redeem himself and falls head over heels (who saw that coming lol). And then we all turn into mush hehe. If you're a fan then you're in for a treat!

We also have our secondary couple in Non and Ling. They're the epitome of cute and you can see their longing for each other, especially Non. They have their own cute story and it makes you wanna cheer them on when they do finally get together. Together with Kot, they form the formidable F3 who are probably the biggest shipper of Arthit and Paeng after us lot hehe.

Like every Thai lakorn, we have our own fair share of snakes and anaconda's (the big bad villain) and they'll probably make your blood boil everytime they appear on screen. But the actors have done a really good job, especially the actor playing Mark (Yes, the big villain is called Mark, not to be confused with Mark the Prin who plays Arthit). His slimey smile, obsessive gaze and grabby hands will make you want to physically shoo him away from Paeng. But have patience for he'll eventually meet his end. Snake mom (ML's mother) is also included in the ranks and all I can say is, will someone ship her to Amazon already?

The Chemistry ¯\_(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)_/¯
There's chemistry not just between the main characters but also with the MC's and the cast. Mark and Kao get together like a house on fire. There are scenes when they don't even have lines and we still understand and feel what they're feeling. Ling, Non and Kot's F3 gang gel so well with those two. It's like friends of years getting together, helping their buddy with getting the girl and on the way, making him aware and calling him out on his behavior too. I like that despite everything in the past, the gang seamlessly includes Paeng into their group and never make her feel unwelcome.

The Music ¯\_(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)_/¯
Yes to the yes! The OST is amazing and it really matches the characters and their development through out the story. Please, please do have a listen! I never skipped either of the credits because of it. Also, the BGM is love. Like seriously. I was always ready with Shazam hehe. Thai lakorn's usually have high quality music, but this is next level.

Rewatch Value ¯\_(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)_/¯
It'll probably take you a few viewings before you can get over it. Also, RIP rewind button. Just saying ^^

Final Thoughts ¯\_(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)_/¯
I, for one, watched it as it was being broadcasted. So I had some really lovely people here at MDL to keep me company. By the time the drama would've finished airing, we'd probably have 10k comments. (EDIT: We do lol) Most of them are just us lot fangirling. But you know what? This is the power of My Forever Sunshine. You'll curse these characters to high heaven but then the very next episode you'll be cheering them on. Some episodes might make you want to pull your hair out, but that's what the skip button is for. All I can say is, use it wisely. At times, you'll really need it. It's a well crafted story (mostly) that comes with some usual lakorn hijinks and should definitely not be missed.

PS: The comment section is riddled with spoilers. So read at you own risk ^^
PPS: Re-reading the review, I feel like the tagline of the lakorn should be "Persevere, because it gets better, eventually" lol.

I'm going to be critical and vent omg

Okay, so this review will contain SPOILERS so if you're looking to avoid them, don't read beyond the spoiler warning!
Also, these are my OWN views and can wildly differ from everyone else's. Please keep that in mind when reading the review :)

It's a fairly typical lakorn filled with all kinds of tropes... Guilty FL, identity confusion (?), love to hate etc. But I had come to love the subtle slow burn chemistry between the FL and ML. They're cute together. But with the FL all but running away to avoid the ML whose only being fueled in his determination to catch her, it descends into something typical and oh so familiar.

Why, omg why do all FL's have to be such Mary Sue's. Like shit. This is early episode 1, so technically not a spoiler. But the sister was clearly jaywalking. It was plain as day. Like there's no crosswalk, she didn't check both ways, she literally just walked into oncoming traffic and the car was equipped with a dash cam too apparently, so why, just WHY did the FL face prosecution. Also, it was NOT hit and run cauz she stopped, got out and checked on the girl. She didn't just drive away. She even went to the hospital with the girls family and apologized to them there repeatedly. In which sense does this look like a hit and run. Roads are meant for driving, NOT walking like you're in a park. So why did everyone villainise the FL. She had to face threats over the phone from the so called angry brother, went into debt just to pay off the family, which was mind you, already very well off. The FL literally had to change her name and move. Her dad's health deteriorated, the mental pressure, the stress, and I could go on and on. But like WHY ALL OF THIS WHEN IT'S NOT HER FAULT OMG...

So enters the ML, who takes over the company when his grandmom falls sick. Obvio the FL is there, working as an assistant. He's drawn to her like a moth to a flame, I kid you not. He's literally buzzing around her, 24x7. But thankfully, it's not I'm invading your personal space, forcing myself on you in hopes you'll like me buzzing. But a more teasing, subtle version which was cute to watch cauz clearly the FL feels something but her guilt is holding her back. It helped his case that he had Lee, his so called girlfriend, who was clearly someone that was more of a best friend than anything, so she helped him clear a path to the FL and occasionally even gave him advice on how to win her over. I liked the girl. She's one of my fav characters in the series. Okay, so now that you've gotten the gist, let's move on to the more frustrating part.

SPOILERS START, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

SO now, despite the FL trying to resign multiple times, the ML has managed to win her over. She's confessed to him, they're going strong, a ring is mixed into the equation. I think you know what's coming next. That's right. The big reveal. I'm the one that hit your sister with a car and caused her to be paralyzed. The scene, while the setting was good, lacked impact. It was over too soon. I wanted them to have a proper confrontation. It just felt a bit lackluster in a way, especially since he was about to propose and all. Don't get me wrong, they did get their confrontation like it was shown in the opening, but of course he didn't hit her and drove around her and moved away. Then came the I hate your existence cauz I love you so much, but you lied, so here's some torture to make up for it. No better way to phrase it honestly. The ML did apologize, directly at that, for his actions to the FL and her family. So that does work in his favor. But not enough, I guess.

I'll admit, I did like the FL telling the ML that he's already taken everything from her, so what else can make up for it. But that's it. That was all the range of complaints she had. It mostly went from stay away from my family to kill me to satisfy your bloodlust. I was honestly very annoyed cauz everyone, including the FL and her family just assumed that it was their fault when it wasn't. Last I checked, jaywalking is a crime. There's a reason why there are traffic rules in place. Ugh, moving on.

The sister. What a trainwreck, I tell you. Half the time she was either in denial, being spiteful, crying or just doing everything she can to make the ML and FL's lives miserable. She literally fueled her brother's anger against the so called perpetrator of the accident and then pretended like she just wanted to move on with her life. Like, just move on then. Why are you riling up your brother by egging him on. I can accept that it was not totally her fault, the parents where partly responsible for her behavior too, but really? She sold out her own brother, who was always running around trying to get revenge for her, at the words of someone who got her pregnant and then actively threatened her to get his hands on her family's company. Messed up doesn't even cover it. To top it off, she accused her brother of raping her and told her parents that the kid was his. Like WTF. Apparently she was supposed to be adopted but wasn't really. That's when shit hit the fan for me.

Then, true lakorn styles, comes another revelation. And another. And another. Honestly, I'm not even going to write it down here cauz it makes my blood boil just thinking about it.

Idk how the FL and fam just forgave the ML and fam for literally dragging them through hell and back when it wasn't even their fault. Like, just no girl. Go sue them or something and enjoy your life away from these people. But of course she doesn't. It is all wrapped up in a rush in the last episode cauz that's all that they're for. To tie up lose ends. Ya'll had 16 episodes and yet you chose the last one for an information overload and then they drive off into the sunset like nothing happened. When will you learn, lakorn world :/

In conclusion, I'm pissed. And annoyed. And there weren't even any decent kisses to make up for it. So watch at your own risk. If you want more spoilers, drop a comment or a message and I'll be more than happy to spare you the pain from watching this.

I'm sorry but how did I not know this existed!?!?!

Oh my god, if you haven't watched the special already, please go and watch it at the first chance. Like seriously. And it's subbed too.

It's literally just these two absolutely adorable goofballs just having the time of their life, occasionally breaking the fourth wall, laughing at their own expense and just in general being aware of the absolutely absurd twists that where in the story.

More than that, it's just two people enjoying each others company, giving us a glimpse of everyday life between Fang Ning and Ling Rui. The domesticity, the warm glow of contentment, the little things between the two of them. It almost felt like I was intruding in their house or something. It gives so much insight as to how they function as a couple despite being opposites.

In conclusion. Watch it. Please.

How great this could've been

I know, I know, writing a review at the halfway mark without knowing what comes next is wrong. But the fact that they've already messed it up till here makes me want to write one. I will update this review if things change.
So, here's my impression of the first 24 episodes.

I feel like they really could've had it all but I think they got lost somewhere trying to balance the scales.
I have read the novel, and might be a bit biased but LSS doing all sorts of things to go against TTJ when all she had to do was talk seems a bit excessive.

The scene when TTJ sees LSS lose it, right before she teleports is probably the only things that's kept me glued to my seat. Because that spit second when TTJ goes all solemn when let's out that painful scream tells you that he knows the feeling of losing everything, of being pushed to the brink of hate. The only things is he found solace in the evil because it gave him power to protect himself. He probably would've offed himself only if so many attempts at his life hadn't already been made. Like we saw in that dream, he wasn't alive because he wanted to, but because others wanted him dead so he stubbornly persevered on and kept himself alive.

They made TTJ more human, and I truly appreciate them for this. Here we can see him understand the feeling of love and then get betrayed in the worst way possible and Yunxi is just *chef's kiss*

But then what happened to them when they adapted LSS? She started off amazingly well as someone who was on a mission, with all her pain and suffering and just trying to survive and save TTJ. But then how did she get dumber and dumber as the story progressed? She's confused in her feelings and wants the spikes to form ASAP so that this can end. BUT on the other end, she's secretly helping XL break out of prison, completely unnecessary might I add, that will effectively dissolve all the previously formed spikes and take her back to square one?

And pleading for and taking YBS home on the very day that she's about to drung TTJ? Like really sis? She betrayed her husband for her so-called survival, showed off her affections with TTJ while being married to XL, but one smile and good talk with her and it's all water under the bridge. Her logic being that if she had everything then she wouldn't have turned bad but then isn't that the case with TTJ too? She saw him being betrayed time and again and almost lose his life to the people that were supposed to protect him but nope, he's gonna turn bad the moment he takes a misstep.

I kinda liked the novel LSS more, where she's living this life like a third-party, existing because of her mission and only showing kindness to the ones that were good to her. She gave no f's to YBS and even found out about her evil intentions and while she did love TTJ, she wasn't constantly hot and cold with him. And TTJ saw that, which was why he was always looking for ways to bind her to him because he knew that if she wants, she can go away and never come back. That desperation pushed him to madness.

I will watch this to the end because my god was that opening incredible. And I'm kinda still rooting for them despite the u-turns that they've taken. And YunLu is love so no way I'll leave halfway through.

It's surprisingly good???

Okay so I went in with zero expectations since the only one short drama I've seen being pulled off well was Queen of Attack, which, they then sort of made a mess in season 2. But HIMEI is surprisingly good considering every episode is about 2-3 mins long barring the opening and ending credits. It's actually very well written considering the cliched story and the actor's do a convincing job of pulling it off as well. They're good looking and fit the bill of the role they're playing. The leads have good chemistry y'all!

I'm not going to comment too much on the storyline because it's literally every rebirth novel story ever. Just a little better, with good acting and decent characters.

The title is very apt considering this is actually an indulge lol. But it has good flow, the FL is not an absolute idiot albeit a bit too clumsy but that's okay. It's not too forced or dumbed down for the audiences. The ML is actually cute and nice instead of being all alpha 'I'm-in-control' here. He has a little depth having some disease of the leg and being on a wheelchair. He's self-conscious and respectful. No forcefully relaying his 'affections' on the FL and being a decent human being in general. FL can think for herself and doesn't always need rescuing which is a nice relief. Side characters are not too annoying and actually funny like the forever-CEO-secretary and FL's almost fiance.

Absolutely LOVE the ending credit song. Opening credit song is good too.

All in all, a fun watch with good storylines.
I've watched upto episode 14 so far and this is my review so far. Subs seem to be out sporadically, so I'll keep updating this review as I go ^^
