Sigh. Just finished this drama and... gave me Fangs of Fortune trauma all over again. (Idk if it's just coz of Neo, but 😭) But The Unclouded Soul was a good watch, and definitely another jewel in the crown for both leads. 👏👏👏👑
Tan Songyun as Xiao Yao was a joy to watch. It's my first time to watch a TSY drama, and I was impressed by her range, from quirky to mature to dramatic. Definitely listing her as someone to watch next. Her portrayal as Xiao Yao in all three of her lifetimes was consistent and excellent, although I'd have wanted to see more of Ning'an and Azure Dragon Xiao Yao pprtrayed more distinctly (like how did XY feel about Ning'an and ADXiao Yao's life before she took over them).
Hou Minghao as Hong Ye was impressive as well. This is the fourth drama I've watched him in, and HY is definitely different from Tianyao, Zhao Yuanzhou, and Ji Bozai, but there's always that Neo look that I like in all four of them (those side glances with his expressive eyes are very interesting😅😏) . Hong Ye is a much more detached person than those other characters, and definitely looked more mature in his present life, the weight of the demon world clearly seen in his demeanor. His anger towards XY at the start was so rage filled, I thought at one point he wouldn't love XY because of his painful past with Ning'an. As a melodrama addict, I wanted that rage to last long, but then again, XY was so adorable that I, like HY, almost forgot who Ning'an was until the first time travel. When we got to the 100years ago HY, I was surprised at how Neo actually looked younger than present HY (Was it the bangs?? 😅). More so when we got to the OG HY (how did he do that?? 😆brought me back to baby Tianyao😆). But OG HY had my attention coz of how pitiful and desperate he looked as a helpless human standing beside an overpowered XY. "Without me and your friends, what will you do? " tugged at my heartstrings. I wanted more of human HY, and more angst from present HY when he found out about his origins. That 40th episode wasn't enough (and whaddaheck dat ending?!? OE again??? Can't things just end with a definite end, happy or sad?... On second thought, I don't want a last scene without Neo tho😆 so ok, I'll take that ending. 😆)
This drama delivered, but it could have done better. It is what it is, though, and I still enjoyed it.
Yes this is one of the best made dramas. There have been some complaints about the plot because it was cut down…

It's okay... This truly isn't for everybody's cup of tea (or coffee, whichever you're into🤣)... That's the tragedy of Tantai Jin, he will always be misunderstood no matter what he does, but he perseveres to do good with a pure heart, without asking for reward or relief. 😭

Juat to share, I found the reason why this drama is the best in the first 9 episodes... But the dramatic ones by the leads come later which sealed the deal for me. 😊

It is your choice still... Not going to dictate on what you're going to do as all dramas have their own charm on different people with different preferences... I have to say though that there's a reason why it's being spoken about after years, so... 🤷♀️
When I read the synopsis, I wasn’t convinced it’s going to be my type of a drama but one thing I’ve learnt…
Ahhh yes, there's a lot of ways this could have been better, true, but I find it excellent, as flawed as it is, because of the leads' acting and chemistry, as well as the intention behind the story.
RE: Bingchang, the reason why the family seems to bully her so is because of her status as a concubine's daughter even if she is the eldest daughter. I'm not claiming to be an expert in Chinese culture mind you, but from what I understand from novels (ehem Lisa See) 😅 and of course watching all these cdramas is that being a concubine's child isn't worth anything😅 so yes, Bingchang has it rough, and she has to work harder to be known even in her own family (OG Ye Xi Wu must have been making it hell for her too) , but as you saw when she got married to Xiao Lin, the king won't even allow her to be a legal wife(consort) but only a side one coz of her origins. That being said..... Bingchang is still a B. 🤣🤣🤣
RE: Immortal Arc, when Li SuSu comes back to her present time... It's necessary to show that her sacrifice saved the Immortal world from the Demon God's destruction (or partly delayed it anyway). If anything, I wanted that arc to have extended to see more of how Tantai Jin adjusted to the immortal sects, more of the Sect Leaders (those two old men are such BFF goals), and yes, more of the explanation about Ye Qingyu being emperor (see the Discussions about that deleted scene with TTJ and LSS visiting YQY)... About XL's story.... 😅 well, yes I agree XL should have stayed dead if he's going to be resurrected like that🤣 but why deny us more of Deng Wei??? 🤣🤣🤣
