Been srsly thinking if and how close this drama depicts the real situation of secondary education in Korea. This is a refreshing take to youth dramas. While there's nothing extraordinary or relatively new to the plot, I really love how relatable this is to most, if not everyone's life at 18: a phase in life where you meet good people that shapes/ influence your future; of discovering what path to take when you barely have clues about what you want in life. It's a good reminder that although the people you meet at eighteen may no longer be there in 5, 10, 15 years, the fond memories you shared together will always be there.
Key points of what I like about the drama:
- How each of the mothers in the drama held onto their beliefs in life, particularly Soo-bin's mother. Although she learned how good of a person Jung Woo is, she insisted that it's best for both parties to focus on their studies for the time being. She's strict, willful, and willing to do everything to secure a bright future for her child.
- The ending was beautiful. - Jung Woo choosing her mother over anything else in the world; Soo-bin supporting Jung Woo no matter how difficult it was
- amazing OST

Bet you'll skip through the episodes.
Started off quite interesting: FL, ML and SFL are skilled and clever enough to get through a game, where they became friends and momentarily goodbye only to cross paths in the Palace where they each learned of their true identifies; ML and FL gradually fell in love with each other - and then everything went south from here.First of all, why is everyone obsessed with marrying the Princess?!!!
Second, whats with the unnecessary death!? I don't understanding why certain characters had to die and what led to such events.
Third - Details are annoying! In what messed up world, do the ML and SML get to work wherever the FL is!? Timeliness are messed up - they don't make sense at all. I was just watching the Queen Dowager take a baby away and in the next episodes he's like 3-5 years old, and in the next one he's like 7-10 years old already!? What happened to the characters in all that period?!
Fourth - no character progression.
Fifth - lousy story centered around ugly, shallow scheming to break the main couple apart. It's like incoherently stacking plot twist after plot twist to finish all 40 episodes. Mind you, there's nothing here that you surely haven't seen before.
The only enjoyable part was that scene where the extremely annoying Ms. Zhang, found out that the person she married on a whim had 10 concubines! For that, and that reason alone, I'm giving this 3 stars.

Listen to the negative reviews - the bickering, the side characters and draggy story
Watched this because of Z.Tao. Loved him in legally romance and since he’s playing quite a similar character in this series, I gave this a try.But I couldn’t for the life of me, finish this drama! I seriously hate the bickering between Z.Tao and Janice Wu! Something about Janice’s facial expression is off-putting; can’t really stand it!!
Couldn’t help but compare this to legally romance. in legally romance, the bickering moments between the CP was funny! I’d say it’s one of the strongest point of the drama. However, in the Brightest star in the sky, it’s painful to watch. Also had to skip a big chunk of the series as I couldn’t stand a lot of the side characters!

The story gets better every time you REWATCH it
I've watched this for the 3rd time now and my ChenShiYi hearts wants to see them again!Rewatching the series allows you to appreciate the tiny details that you didn't really notice when you first watched it, and that makes this such a treasure. Bai Lu and Allen Ren really did amazing job at playing their roles! They made me swoon with their limited lines, physical affection and stares galore. I loathe the Crown Prince - which shows how excellent the actor was in portraying the character.
Details are incredible - fight scenes were realistic, costumes are amazing. They did a good job at portraying Shi Yi's growth.
Music is great - in fact , it's my go to playlist recently. Love Allen Ren's 'As One' -- such a talented fellow!
Of course, much like many of us, I would prefer a happy ending at any day. But seeing how things progressed, I think they chose the best ending to the story. It may not be the perfect ending, but it sure satisfying to see how it all ends for such a tyrant, obsessive ruler who values nothing and no one, but himself.
