Short, fluffy and perfect to binge watch
Your Summer, My Storm is not a show that's crazy or bold by any means. It's a simple and easy watch. Not particularly unique, as fluffy BL might be the most saturated genre in Japan. What it does different though, is that it portrays a pure and platonic love between Natsuki and Sota. They spend time together as a family, it's like Sota had always been there. As an AroAce, it's quite refreshing to see.They don't need grand romantic gestures or constant physical touch to show off their love. They simply like each other's presence. This doesn't make it any less of a BL.
Like Natsuki said: "I don't like him because he's a man".
His past relationships didn't fail because they were with women, it was because they weren't Sota.
It would be nice to see more of them, and how their relationship evolves over time. The format of this show would be perfect to be a longer running one. *wink wink*
The cinematography has this nostalgic feeling to it. It's probably due to the coloring, and how it's shot. I like it. It's also very family centered, considering the plot it was inevitable. I'm surprised how they handled the "Omg, I fell for my sister's boyfriend!" trope. Very unexpected but I'm not mad, it could have been something way worse.
There are a few cons though, which I know won't bother everyone, but I'll list them here:
- The mixing of the music in some scenes feel a little unnecessary or loud
- Excessive ai propaganda (?). Not only did they use GenAI for some of the shots of the home, but they somehow squeezed it into the dialogue too.
- In every episode there is a VERY high-pitched jingle, probably some kind of bell in the house. It's a little unsettling in a good way in some scenes, but it's gets irritating and distracting quickly.
Despite these very few flaws, I highly recommend this show if you're in the need of something light and cute!
