I loved this one
Aww I wanted DX to come back as a spirit through the sword that was gifted to him. That would've been a cool arc. Ultimately I thought the sword meant that'd he'd be the protector of the void. Then again I didn't read the novel to truly understand.
In a way I foresaw the death of baby DX but loved the revival of his characters' nature in the Void. I wished that Simu shared her burdens with the team she cultivated in the mortal world so she wasn't alone dealing with that crackhead YK. Granted her team in the void was strong but they underestimated YK desire for the throne and missed key opportunities to quell his rebellion. It went on for too long, since they have 300 years of training; you'd think they'd have a fall safe if the queen gets captured, confined or subdued.
Same for DX military work... granted he isn't a Xie Zheng but the casualties he amassed was crazy. Then he's so slow to call Simu for help while so many people are dying fighting against juju enhanced chong soldiers.
This story portrayal of death was raw and cold; which to me was different from other wuxias. I enjoyed Simu's strict nature concerning mortal matters, she can aid and safe but can't bring back is such an honest way of accepting the ebbs and flow of life. It was a extremely mature take on the limits of interference one can induce and/or manipulate on fate.
