I don’t like what he did but considering the time frame they live in…without an imperial edict the only thing ML would be asking FL’s parents is if she be his concubine. What an insult that would be lol

Now that I’m off work, here is my rant about BOTH of them because apparently neither one knows how to communicate like a normal person. (Side note: I do love both of them and this show. They are just making me frustrated atm)

ML: Sir… WHY do you have to force her to marry you when you already know exactly how it feels to have your own choices taken away? And why are you drugging her?! If you already believe she loves the other dude, then WHY are you marrying her? This could be your first marriage all over again!

Like your grandpa said, you really need to start paying more attention to your own actions and to the people you’re supposed to be protecting. Like when you let that previous CP go but helping the current CP. that may come back to haunt you.

FL: Lady, I understand that you’re angry, but you don’t have to act like you’re the only morally righteous person in the entire kingdom. If you truly didn’t want to marry him, you could have done what your parents did and simply disregarded the imperial edict. Live or die.

I completely understand why you’re angry that his family broke up the original marriage. But they are not responsible for your family’s deaths. It’s not like they betrayed your family or reported them. So the level of disrespect toward his elders is unnecessary, regardless of whether you’re acting as your original self or as the maid they freed.

And now you’re refusing to save your friend because you don’t want to use ML’s method not that I agree with ML’s method either but… Fine. Then I genuinely hope you find your own solution. But if you don’t, I’m going to be disappointed because your “righteousness” means very little if you refuse to use the power and resources available to you when someone’s life is at stake.

Honestly, BOTH of you need to grow up. ML needs to learn that loving someone does not give him the right to control their choices, and FL needs to stop viewing herself solely as the victim.

I still love the drama and both of them lol but seriously this show also makes me hate them.

I hated everything he did about forcing her but I also hated her showing no respect to the elders and I get it but in the other hand his mom helped set her and her parents free and then she plays the hypocrite by expecting him to be respectful to her parents and obviously he would have been since he was the one that force the marriage but uggg these two.

I really don’t like both of them right now. They both need some growing up to do and have real conversations instead of jabbing each other but I guess this is part of both their growth.

Or it could also be the reason she starts falling for him if she realize he has preserve some pieces of her family.. like the estate, their body, etc - and if he opens up to her about how he felt even if they weren’t married - they were engage for awhile and he must have felt some type of guilt, lost and responsibility. Maybe he even gets the emperor to revoke the treason on her family not knowing she is from the shen family. I’m just speculating but this is really the only way I see her falling for him .

I’m glad she’s making it obvious also but I also feel bad for her maids in that scene where they cook the soup for her. They want her to shine and succeed and put in effort for her.

Would you have chosen to save your family like grandpa Lin or would you have stood by your values like grandpa Shen?

I’m a coward so I would have hide like grandpa Lin lol but I wonder if one of the reason why he doesn’t want to go back to the capital or want the kids to go is that he’s ashame - going back is like facing the decision he made.

Also not to mention the friend who supposedly saved his life wanted to kill him and didn’t like him at all.

It almost feels like she doesn’t know what to do with herself. She’s probably angry and her thoughts are all over the place. She doesnt know yet how to treat ml, her maids or the elders. She’s kinda in limbo…it’s almost like she knows how to act like a maid and how to act like a noble young mistress but not in between lol. Our FL is going through it and need to figure these two worlds and how to handle it.

I think what’s interesting about FL and her not having romantic feelings for ML and 2ML is around the way she was brought up engaged to someone since young regardless if it was with ML or not. She isn’t necessarily uninterested in romance; she’s simply never had the opportunity to discover what romance means to her personally. Her entire understanding of marriage was decided for her when she was a child. For years, there was no reason to look at another man because there was never supposed to be another option. Once that engagement is broken, she’s suddenly expected to make a choice she has never actually had to make before. She may not even realize when someone is courting her because she’s never learned to see men through that lens and then afterwards she is more concentrated on staying alive and her parents. Compare to a lot of others where they weren’t engaged to someone so they had to learn to play the courtship game.

I think his original plan was probably to court her slowly and let things develop naturally, but then one obstacle after another kept getting in the way. There was the scholar guy, her parents, his mother constantly planning his next marriage, all the political complications and even before he openly expressed his feelings, other people had already figured out what was going on and started trying to kidnap her.

At that point, he would have had to convince her, her parents, his grandparents, his mother, deal with the scholar, and then somehow make sure Lanxiang didn’t just run away or get kidnapped AGAIN by one of the many people who opposed their relationship. There were just way too many variables working against him.

So I can totally see him when the opportunity arise to say yup imperial decree—I’ll apologize later.

I added this to a different comment but I’ll add it here also. I’m in a way glad that the story continues with her returning to the status and world she was born into rather than have her permanently remain where she ended up and marry the scholar. There’s a lot more character development that can come from watching her navigate that world again not just as someone’s daughter or wife, but as a woman who has experienced life outside of her privileged upbringing and now understands what she had, what she lost, and what she can actually do with that position.

She has seen both sides of society. She knows what it’s like to live without the privileges she was born with, so returning to that life doesn’t necessarily mean she’s simply going back to being spoiled or sheltered. It gives her the opportunity to use her education, connections, influence, and family position differently because of everything she has experienced.

That’s what makes her returning to her status more interesting to me than having her stay in a lower social position simply for the sake of choosing the scholar. It gives her story somewhere to go beyond romance. We get to see what kind of woman she becomes when she has both the power she was born with and the perspective she gained from living without it.

Han kind of did make the decision for her. Yes, technically she could have said no, but realistically, would she have gone against her parents? As they specifically referenced in that scene, the only person above a parent’s authority was the emperor. The ML had access to the emperor, so he took that route. The 2ML had access to her parents, so he took that route. Both men were essentially working within the hierarchy and authority that existed at the time.

And regarding my last sentence. She was born into a prominent family; she wasn’t born a maid or someone from a lower social class.

For me, it’s also more interesting to see her return to the status and world she was born into rather than have her permanently remain where she ended up and marry the scholar. I mean before charisma… you have to be smart and know what script to accept. And imo this drama is great not just because of the script but the great actors and actress including female lead. I’m glad they didn’t pick some pretty charismatic face that can’t act at all. That would have been a major let down.
