Title Shogun
One of the things that made me laugh was the pilot (an English) pointing fingers at the Portuguese and Spaniards…
Your own description: "He was a soldier, an explorer, a tradesman, an ambassador. In those letters of marque he was empowered to attack and rob any enemy ship or base. His "salary" was 10% of his prey he took back with him to Amsterdam, those were the rules in those times."

Sounds pretty much like the description of a mercenary. Queen Elizabeth I called her henchmen "privateers" just because they were pirates hired by her.
The Netherlands had their Dutch East India Company (and the West India Company), which were the equivalent of England's privateers (just not so brazen). One of them tried to take possession of part of Brazil but the Portuguese kicked them out.
France had the Foreign Legion until recently. What was it?
Aren't Russia and Ukraine at war and using mercenaries? Does being at war precludes one from using mercenaries?
2024, or the 1500s, or 1600s, etc. robbing and plundering is the same (a spade is a spade).

Very good points. I took it just as an entertainment fiction. If we look at it just as entertainment (very) loosely based on History, its production is good. I use a lot of suspension of disbelief when watching thus kind of drama, since I also doubt the people at that time would think and act like that.

No. Your analogy isn't correct. The British knew exactly what they were doing when pillaging the Portuguese and Spanish colonies and ships. That pilot worked as a mercenary whose mission was to investigate and sabotage them. He himself stated that very clearly when describing his "mission". So, yes, the hypocrisy is laughable.

What? The compilation of 3 episodes version has stuff removed? That's the version I watched. arrgh. I had problems…
I did not watch everything. Just browsed through trying to figure out. I also asked there but they did not reply.
Anyway, while browsing, I saw some scenes in one that I did not see in the other and vice-versa, hence the confusion. Maybe they just changed the sequences. I'll watch the longer one with shorter episodes.

Yeah and it proves that you don't need too many skinship or kissing scenes to make the romance story enjoyable…
Agree. It's one of the reasons I enjoy the Chinese, Korean and Japanese series and movies.
On this specific one I loved that "Iron Chef"-style competition when she was fighting to get the restaurant. Perfect scene.

What a rollercoaster. This drama portrayed the typical corporate world quite well. The typical "leaders" not taking accountability, taking all credit for the successes and laying the blame on people reporting to them was really well demonstrated by the writer.
The actors played the backstabbing, gossips and hard work with small payback and the related emotions very well. YO Media's environment remembered me of Jack Welch's GE where he promoted that "competition" mentality that destroyed the teams and collaboration and ultimately the company.
So, the series brought back some memories (good and bad) and sometimes was heart wrenching to watch. Therefore, I took my time, sometimes taking a break and watching something light.
Nevertheless, it's a very good series.

Going through episode 3 now. Enjoying it so far. However, there's something different about the first season that I still could not pinpoint precisely. It's the same director, but the way the actors perform feels a bit different. Maybe they all grew up and age and experience are showing?
Anyway, still enjoying it. WQN's wife met expectations. 🤣

Very funny productiion. It's great in many ways, since it's not only very entertaining but also offers a glipse of how much the Chinese movie industry evolved and improved in a short period of time.
The actors put a great show and made the story very funny to watch amid big doses of sillyness. The newer version is also good. However, as others already mentioned, this one has its own charm and character.

Nice series. Good story, even though it made the good characters too good, almost perfect, and the flawed and bad ones too flawed and too bad. However, the actors' chemistry and their performance made this story pleasant to watch, backed by a great production and soundtrack. I'll likely watch again in the future.

Thinking not to work tonight just to watch these 4 episodes but it’s gonna be a struggle to find if it doesn’t…
Viki did a good job with the pace of Legend of Shen Li. My guess is that it depends on the translation team. Some a very good and others are lame. Hopefully JOL2 gets a good team.

It seems that Fan Xian's mother was killed by the emperor because he perceived her fortune and power through the stores and knowledge a threat to him. Curious to see how it goes when Fan Xian finds out.

Big waste of a nice story concept. Very bad acting and screenwriting made watching this series almost unbearable. It was very painful watching that actor playing the bad prince. Luckily it was a short series.

Some stories are awesome, others are more like a "rinse and repeat" and this was one of the latter. Very good production, acting all over the place and some nice songs. However, like several other dramas, this one spends a lot of time (too many recaps) and even drag until very close to end, when things get rushed and pop-up out of nowhere. Neverthless, a nice series to watch.

I'm confused about this series. SENTV has it on YouTube. However, it has two versions. One that looks like the one on iQiyi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMD28l2mcOI&list=PLHal96yJvQA9LC3q2JuEdWNMKRA4NaZVd

However, it also has another one that has longer episodes (it's still releasing this one's episodes). https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHal96yJvQA_jcN4u1RrdpMQGdnfMImW6

Are there two versions of it? It appears that they added three episodes together to make one in this new release. However, some scenes are different and some stuff was added and other removed. Very confusing.

Awesome series with a brilliant cast. I was never disapointed by any drama with Yang Zi. This one has everything from fun to sad moments that the writers portraied very well and the actors masterly enacted. Some of the music in the soundtrack complemented the scenes giving them a warm touch. Definitely worth to watch.
