I don't think I ever set out to become someone who watches so many historical dramas. Somehow, I just kept finding my way back to them.

It started with the stories that made entire worlds feel real to me—the kingdoms, the palaces, the battles, the ambitions, the people trying to survive inside systems much bigger than themselves. And somewhere along the way, I realized that what really keeps me watching isn't simply the history or the costumes.

It's the characters.

Give me someone intelligent enough to understand the game, patient enough to wait for the right moment, and complicated enough that I can't decide whether to admire them, worry about them, or yell at them through my screen—and I'm probably invested.

I have a particular weakness for political intrigue, strategic minds, palace power struggles, ambitious characters, morally complicated decisions, and relationships forged under impossible circumstances. I love watching characters slowly accumulate power, lose it, fight to reclaim it, or discover what power actually costs.

Which probably explains why my heart keeps returning to dramas like The Story of Minglan, Empresses in the Palace, Joy of Life, Six Flying Dragons, The Rise of the Phoenixes, Qin Dynasty Epic, Jumong, and Goodbye, My Princess.

And then there is Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms.

That drama reminded me that I don't need a story to be grounded in reality to become completely absorbed in it. Give me beautiful world-building, destiny, devotion, heartbreak, and characters who feel larger than life, and apparently I will happily disappear into that world too.

I don't need every drama to have romance, but when the romance is good, I want it to mean something. I especially love relationships that develop alongside the main story rather than replacing it—where love, loyalty, ambition, duty, and survival are all pulling the characters in different directions.

I also have a soft spot for dramas that take their time. I don't mind a slow burn if the writers are quietly putting pieces on the board. In fact, I often prefer it. I like the feeling of looking back several episodes later and realizing that something I thought was insignificant was actually important all along.

I suppose, in the end, I'm here for stories about people trying to change their fate while navigating a world that doesn't want to let them.

Historical C-dramas are probably where I feel most at home, but I'm always willing to cross the border into K-dramas—or anywhere else—if the story has the right kind of characters.

I'm still looking for those dramas that make me forget I'm watching a drama at all.

The ones that make me think about the characters after the episode ends.

The ones that stay.

My love for dramas eventually spilled beyond my watchlist. I started CKdramaVerse page, a little space where I share drama clips, favorite moments, and some of my thoughts along the way. It's simply another way for me to celebrate the stories and characters that make me feel something—and to share that love with fellow drama fans.
