Title My Royal Nemesis Spoiler
I'm in the middle of watching ep. 9 and had to come here to rant for a second...Is it just me, or the editing…
That, and did you also have the feeling the writing has gotten more lax? I know i'm gonna share an unpopular opinion but there's a clear difference btw first half and now. Still, acting is great. Maybe they are having problems weaving the plotlines together and connecting threads. But you can feel more the intent behind the scene, like what it's supposed to accomplish plot-wise. Most apparent--ep 9 end scene they cut all Sin Seo Ri's lines and only Cha Se Gye is talking. Emotionally the viewer is supposed to be invested at that point, and many will be, but honestly I found it lacking. It was uncharacteristic. You can gloss it over saying "she was shocked," but consistency-wise this is not how her character was set up to be (since ep 1 in modern times so the current her, not past life court lady scenes) and how her reactions would flow organically. Narrative-wise it's an easy trick in order to make Cha Se Gye's lines shine and make him the focal point of the scene. Maybe better editing would make this transition better, but it doesn't offer buildup. Acting was great, but because how it was written, CSG's words feel like reciting phrases the writer put there with a purpose in mind. Even the same lines would feel better if the scene was written differently. Oh well. That's just my take on it. Anyway, I'm still really enjoying the show. Hope the rest of the eps are great!
