Title Prison Playbook Spoiler
How could you not watch this? How could I not write about this? Oh, my heart, my damn heart is in tatters and…
My thoughts about Looney: although I wouldn't be surprised if his ending was driven by homophobia, my initial thoughts have to do with the way he snuggled up to everyone in his cell, whether they wanted him to or not. He admitted to being affection-starved. His mother clearly loved him, but was not attentive to his needs and he felt like she didn't care about him. He wasn't out to his parents, either, they kept referring to his boyfriend as his friend and tried to set JiHo up with him years before he ended up in prison. He seemed to be able to go cold turkey on the drugs because of the support he had from his cell mates. They encouraged him, and were affectionate with him, despite his sass. They really cared about him. I think that he realized once he was out that his support system was gone. He had his boyfriend, but as I said before he wasn't out to his parents so more than likely it was going to be a secret relationship. In prison, people were forced to interact with him just because of the proximity. In the real world, they can cut off communication and contact easily. I don't think it was the draw of the drugs being presented so blatantly to him (isn't this entrapment anyway??? or does that not exist in SK?) as much as the fact that he was going to be alone in the world. But maybe I'm thinking too much. IDK I was really bothered by his ending, but after I gave it some thought, it kind of made sense and seemed like a realistic conclusion to his story.
